Massively enjoying FO3 on my 360 and just started FO2 on my Macbook. Which is the best game in your opinion or spin off?

I'm going to assume by "best" you meant "your favourite". Mine's FO 2. Big, nice story, immersive, lots of things to do, and of course the combat taunts. ^^

Fallout, being the groundbreaking game it was...will forever be the best in my mind. My hierarchy would look something like this, though:

FO1>FO2>FO3>TACTICS>P.O.S.

(Also, if you're going to play #2 check N.M.A. for Killap's Patch and also his Restoration Project which adds all the bits the devs didn't have time to implement by it's release date).

Fallout 2 any day. Fallout 1 is great two but Fallout 2 feels more complete.

Lists are for the Vault City List office. All Fallouts have their pros and cons. The RPG games (1,2,3) are supierior to the others, but I refuse to rank the core games.

The original was an unforgettable experience which the sequels all emulate and recreate.

I'm a nostalgic person so Fallout 1 is my favourite. Fallout 2 comes close. Fallout 3, because of the mods, comes close to Fallout 2.

I have only played the demo of Fallout Tactics, which I enjoyed. And I'm not classyfing that Fallout : Brotherhood of Steel as a Fallout title so I won't bother with it.

It would have to be fallout 2, being a fluffer was what i was good at...lol

My favorite is Fallout because of the story, but I really like the gameplay and character creation balancing of the sequels

I don't think you can compare FO1/2 to FO3. It's like apples to oranges. FO1/2 are definitely great gaming experiences but they're more than 10 years old already and that's an eternity in the gaming world.

Fallout 2 had many glaring flaws, but the new things it brought to the table more than made up for it. Unless you are one of the strange new RPG fans who actually think real time combat is superior to turn based combat, I fail to see how you consider the two equal. Whether you like the game or not, Fallout 3 barely brought anything positive into the series.

I'd have to say Fallout 1, with Fallout 2 a very close second. While Fallout 2 is a great improvement from a lot of elements of Fallout 1 in my opinion, Fallout 1 really started all this and had a lot of memorable moments. Even today I can remember doing a lot of quests and enjoying doing the same quests again with a new character, but this time make a different decision. Besides that, dialogue was superb.

EDIT: There was a long angry post here about you calling me a "strange new fan." Dude, I've been playing Fallout for a decade, and I have an aging Pentium 2 dedicated to playing games like X-Com and Jagged Alliance. Real time over turn based? Please, don't insult me.

But after calming down and thinking about it. As much as I'd hate to admit it. You're right. 2 can't be lumped together with 3. The reason for my rankings was because the thread is about the Best Fallout. I love series as a whole, each and every game (except for POS), but the original Fallout rises above the rest as the game that started it all and upon which all the other games are based. So screw the ranking. All I wanted to say was that Fallout 1 reigns over all.

Wasteland! Wait... Vault 13: A GURPS Post-Nuclear Adventure! Wait, that's not right... FOUNTAIN OF DREAMS! YES! (Please note: Wasteland was the spiritual predecessor of Fallout, Vault 13 was the working title of Fallout, and Fountain of Dreams was the sequal to Wasteland)

Does fountain of dreams really count? I was going to say no on the grounds that noone from Interplay or the original team was involved... But never mind

Meantime was supposed to be the true sequel to wasteland, but got canned, it got to the stage where it was simply too dated to be released.

Fallout 1 for starting it all makes it the best game.

Though Fallout 2 has the best imrpove ments, and if you could go back and make fallout 1 on the fallout 2 engine improvements it wouldb e great.

Fallout 3 as it goes is good and a worth update to the franchis.

Though I have to admit I liked the multiplayed in FOT. RPG wise wasa bit of a let down but as a game was good.

We dont mention that thing that appeared on the console market BOS.

Fallout 2 is my fave, the world is huge. (I'm sure it doesn't hurt that my absolute favorite town in all the wastes is "New Reno") Fallout 1 being a close second if I'm just making a simple list, followed by tactics if you count it, then Fallout 3.

I love Fallout 2's world and feeling, additions from the first and improved character creation to make yourself even more unique for every replay even after your 100th
I loved Fallout 1's characters and some of the towns//areas more in some cases (Junk Town, The Hub, The Glow, Necropolis, The Master, Killian.

I loved Fallout 2's many more and improved random encounters//events and I liked the improvements on companions.

FOT BOS wasn't an rpg is the thing (I liked the game by the way and it still look less creative liberties then Fallout 3 did)

For me Fallout 3 is my favourite, followed by Tactics (loved that combat system), then the originals. Below all of them by a truly enormous degree is BOS.
