doomsday kinda svcked (see - unbelievable storyline, poor motivations, unoriginal car chase scene etc, though the first "raider town" had plenty of style - so points for that), sorry to rain on your poor taste parade.

The Road Warrior is without doubt the best post apocalyptic film released so far, though I have high hopes for next years The Road.

also someday Lucifer's Hammer should be turned into a film, as should Swan Song

I'm a little apprehensive about this one...I absolutely love the book and I seriously doubt any movie can do it justice (and it seems a little contradictory given some of the book's themes, but I got no problems with Cormack getting paid). Fortunately, when I was reading the book I imagined Viggo as the father and will definitely see it as soon as it's released

Same guy that wrote No Country for Old Men. The Road was an awesome book. I hope the movie is just as good. :)

Hmm...I'm assuming that you've already wikipedia-ed it (be careful...the wiki-entry contains way too much synopsis, so be careful about spoilers)...I don't have anymore information other than that. Go to your local book retailer, buy it, and read it with only one light on in your house (for the atmosphere, even though it doesn't need much help)

I haven't rented it yet but the trailer reminds me of a cross between Resident Evil and Mad Max. It looks kind of corny but I'll probably rent it to give it a fair shake.

I went to see Doomsday expecting it to be so horrible it was funny, but it just turned out to be average. Glad you liked it though!

the raiders in the mad max series would rap the crap at of you and leave you to die. and make your boy friend watch. thats pretty cruel. ya that eat people in doomsday. only cuz they didnt have any food.

Yeah, they were cruel, too. But they had a soft side. They tried to bargain for the oil, at least. And did you see the poor man mourn his slave-boy-lover-dude when he was killed after being hit in the head with the boomerang from hell that the kid had? They were pretty emotional, man.

Now the blokes in Doomsday? They would probably just eat them.

Absolutely agree with everything you said...

Doomsday svcked the big one, it was a TERRIBLE film... The Road Warrior is by far the best comparison to Fallout you have out there, I mean, the opening Narration says it all. See the quote taken directly from the opening scene below...

" My life fades. The vision dims. All that remains are memories. I remember a time of chaos. Ruined dreams. This wasted land. But most of all, I remember The Road Warrior. The man we called "Max". To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time. When the world was powered by the black fuel. And the desert sprouted great cities of pipe and steel. Gone now, swept away. For reasons long forgotten, two mighty warrior tribes went to war and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel, they were nothing. They built a house of straw. The thundering machines sputtered and stopped. Their leaders talked and talked and talked. But nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. The cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men. On the roads it was a white line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice. And in this maelstrom of decay, ordinary men were battered and smashed. Men like Max. The warrior Max. In the roar of an engine, he lost everything. And became a shell of a man, a burnt out, desolate man, a man haunted by the demons of his past, a man who wandered out into the wasteland. And it was here, in this blighted place that he learned to live again..."

but NONE have even come close to comparing to the 2008 release, Doomsday.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll go check it out.

And after watching the movie...

I'm sorry but no. Doomsday was pretty good and all but it wasn't really great. A Boy and His Dog and Mad Max have it beat by a long shot. Opinions vary though!

I agree with Ghostwise, except for "pretty good". It was a ok movie.

I do see the OP's view on the Raiders. They were pretty cool, but if I hadn't played F3, I wouldn't have had any appreciation for them.

Max and Blood win over Sinclair.

Now, by all means, I've been a fan of the Mad Max movies, the old Kurt Russell Escape From New York movie, A Boy and His Dog and many others relating to the "Fallout Feel," but NONE have even come close to comparing to the 2008 release, Doomsday.

Uhhh, so you mean by shamelessly ripping off the aforementioned movies and getting generally panned by critics it's somehow blowing the movies it stole from out of the water? Did I mention SHAMELESSLY? Yeah, I did. Did I mention how horribly cheesy it gets after it eases up on the Thunderdome/Road Warrior rip-off? Oh wait...it never lets up.

There is a website called quiet earth that does reviews on post apocalypse/dystopia genre movies and most of them have some kind of trailer to go with the review. I don't really trust the opinions they give in reviews since they are nuts about this kind of stuff anyways they usually end up giving a good review to a [censored] movie, but it is nice to look at some trailers and there is a good list of movies to go through.

So that means you seriously thought the movie svcked? REALLY? That was probably one of the best movies of 2008 in my opinion...

I cannot believe you just said that...doomsday svcked, the only thing that probably reminded me of fallout out was the raiders part, a boy and his dog is probably the best movie to oompare. And 70's movies are as good as the recent movies.

Now, lemme get this started by saying. While this thread isn't dedicated to the whiners and criers here that "constantly" complain that the thread doesn't go in their favor, it will bring on some controversy and that's fine, so crai.

Now, by all means, I've been a fan of the Mad Max movies, the old Kurt Russell Escape From New York movie, A Boy and His Dog and many others relating to the "Fallout Feel," but NONE have even come close to comparing to the 2008 release, Doomsday.

I just finished watching the movie and could relate every single character, every single aspect of the movie to Fallout. There are ruins, there are raiders, there are mohawks, there are biker goggles, there are technology seekers, there are scientists, there are specialists, there are snipers, there are various uses of weapons, there are "armor-clad" warriors, there are cars, there are trains, there are cannibals, there is devastation, there is leather armor, these is technology and ultimaley, the source, the very meaning, as in every Fallout game ever released, there is a way to fix things... A cure. A way to make things... better. Plus! The most bad-ass post-apocalypic car chase scene you have ever seen your entire life...

While the movie doesn't take place after "Nuclear-Bombs" exploded, there is another reason for the end of the world and the survivors in this movie are the most realistic and BEST comparison to the Fallout series I've EVER seen. For those that are confused on what movies might relate to Fallout and want to watch a movie that is absolutely "today" and not the boring 1980s or even 1970s filmography, THIS is the movie for you. If you're a huge fan of the Fallout series, as I am and YOU haven't seen Doomsday.... Go rent/buy. It will place you directly in the seat of the vault dweller if you're one that can look past the aspect that a nuclear war didn't happen but a plague that wiped out the world instead.

Don't worry, the world still looks completely devastated and destroyed, as it should! Caution: The movie isn't for the faint-hearted and it shouldn't matter for Fallout fans anyways! This movie = Fallout 3

*Edit* Ah, as an endnote: For anybody that can give me a more accurate description of a Fallout "Raider" than this movie considering their party in Glasgow, please try.

you're kidding right? That movie was so generic and crappy. It was so cheesy. I like some cheesy movies when they know they're cheesy, but this was trying to be serious. Plus... the whole last scene with the Bentley... there is NO way in HELL those crappy cars / vans / dirt bikes could ever keep up with that car... it has a top speed near 200 mph.... dirt bikes and old crappy vans do not. That was dumb. The whole medieval thing was dumb. but.... the higher population / vehicles would have made F3 a better game. Personally, I think the upcoming game http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/957/957206.html looks better.

"This movie = Fallout 3"

So its massivly Bugged, Short storyline, Leaving you Unsatisfied?

ive seen the movie, LOLed and sighed alot, then i slid Mad Max in the VHS and suddenly i got my good mood back, so yes to the above statement.

I LOVE the fact that it reminds me of that movie! Seriously, I might possibly be the only female on the planet the LOVES that movie and wishes I could be there (personally, I liked Road Warrior best, but you know how it is) but I love that the game is like that! The Raiders in Fallout are so based on my favorite (and super attractive) men from that movie.

the statement that you love Mad Max just made you beloved wife material for a huge lot of potential boyfriends.
