It was a joint project between Roco and General Atomics.

Also Mr. Handy robots have been around since the first Fallout.

Yeah I knew that, its why I linked to Chris Taylor's design document in the first sentence. Didn't mean to imply that Bethesda invented it. Just mentioned Fallout 4 because it made New Vegas seem more like an outlier in regards to that one but of lore, as it hammered the General Atomics connection a bit more and seemed to make it seem more distinct from Robco.

One reason could be that Robco might have created the initial prototype design of the Mr. Handy, and traded or sold it to General Atomics. Which might explain the prototype in REPCONN.

Seems like it might have just been an oversight though.

Could it be possible that Robco has rights to tech used in Mr. Hand robots? Maybe Robco still has rights to sell Mr. Handy robots or something.

But still since Robco has links to General Atomics and Mr. Handy robots. It makes sense for a man like Mr. House to include Mr. Handy in his show cases. After all he seems like a man who would never let his competition forget that he was the one who came up with a winning piece of tech. That if not for him Mr. Handy wouldn't be possible and so on.

i like this explanation. House certainly wouldn't be the type to let others take credit for his accomplishments. The relationship with General Atomics seems interesting. The name makes me think more consumer electronics rather than weapon systems. But then again they helped make Liberty Prime. Also robobrains, a project that House seems to distance himself from:

Thinking about it more, according to the design document Mr. Handys first went out on the market in 2037. Mr. House was born in 2020, making him 17 at that time. This was 5 years before Robco's founding in 2042 (going by the obituary which said he was 22 at the company's founding). Maybe Mr. House used to work for General Atomics and Robco was an in house robotics firm that became independent in 2022?

Maybe Mr. House designed Mr. Handy or at least something to do with it while at MIT. He could have been recruited by General Atomics or contracted out his designs to them. Being a great businessman Mr. House could have worked out a deal in which he keeps some of the rights to his designs while General Atomics gets to build it.

on curie's terminal, where you first find her (or him, since another terminal states curie originally was a MISTER handy), she states stg along the lines of "property is against robco guidelines", so this pretty much indicates robco, too...

Don't forget, Robco and General Atomics were known to work together on making robots.

Well I used to work for General Atomics but then Robco offered me a better deal, shorter hours, more perks etc. Silly Atomics didn't force me to sign a non-disclosure agreement so Robco profited. But the poor Mr Handy unit has bits of Robco and bits of General Atomics in them, if your unit is making derogatory comments about Robco it's not unusual since the handy unit has internal conflict about it's identity which has even led them into believing they are Fisto models.
