Aliens have feelings too. NyangNyang ClickClackClack NaaaaaNyang!

Why the hatred for them? That was a DLC & last gen game at that. Honestly how can you hate them?

One arguement I read by some guy was "they are supposed to be an easter egg". But how?? Like wow is that super flawed on so many levels, if anything LMFAO.

-> First of all, Bethesda bought the game / the rights of the game.. whatever you want to call it. They decide whatever they want to do with it. Deal with this fact already.

-> Also Easter eggs like these (random happenings/story lore/quests that hint at a much greater thing) are in the game and make you totally want for more of that particular thing.. atleast if they are implemented correctly. And so why do you even call them real easter eggs?

-> There is a different between this type of thing and an easter egg that hints at an actual different game not neccessarily from the same game devs OR a movie OR something else along these lines..

So yeah.. on one side you have what is a real Easter egg & on the other side you have what you could call inspiration.

Another example is how so much Lovecraftian content is a thing aswell in Fallout.. but also in World of Warcraft and so many other games. You hate that too??

Well damn most of what game devs make, especially Bethesda, consist of these inspirational things.

Stay NyangNyang & keep the Zetan Probe where it belongs :goodjob:

Hmm.. I will use your post as valuable opportunity to post my opinion as well. lol

1. I didn`t play MZ.. because I believed it was absolutely unnecessary to make my FO3 experience richer.

After many years, I still don`t miss it... and I can`t see myself ever going after aliens related story in FO because that`s not what I expect from FO.

2. Cabot house - First they were pretty interesting... but I was not impressed when all their THEORIES turned out to be HARD TRUTH.

So FO world is clearly heavily related to alien culture and now we have some kind of real X-MEN on the loose...

This wasn`t totally what I expect to experience through a fallout game.

Do I hate aliens? No... I love them. I love the hell out of Mass Effect series.

...but in FallOut series less talk about aliens the better for me..

because in FO, I want to see more human drama and cruel reality rather than some weird alien related mumbo jumbo (which is now total truth in FO series!!)

I'm with ya OP, I loved Mothership Zeta. I'd love to see more alien dlc. Unfortunately, it seems like we're in the minority.

Actually I believe most fans don`t mind or enjoyed alien stuffs in FO.

I am sure Mothership Z sold well and many people said Cabot house was best side quest in FO4.

Mothership Zeta is the one DLC I never played, simply because I didn't think it fit in with the rest of the Fallout experience. And I started with F3. It still just didn't fit. As an easter egg, or occasional low-key random event like in F4 and New Vegas, it works great. 50's Sci-Fi, man. But having entire storylines revolve around them? No thanks.

I don't hate aliens.

That being said, Fallout is about this idea that humanity keeps screwing itself over for the same reasons: recourses, ideology, pettiness, greed. "War Never Changes." If we have conflicts started by random space aliens, it no longer fits with that theme.

I agree with you there, but aliens still aren't central to the plot and Mothership Zeta had pretty much no implications on the story outside of it. So I don't see why it's such a problem. Even the Cabot questline was about human greed more than any ancient alien civilization.

Aliens are little bit far out in fallout. It's sounds like we're playing a science fiction game, not "the day after". You can say that SM and ghouls also are kind of aliens, but this is how far I'm willing to believe after a nuclear world war. Some places in rl we do have mutations, but they are not so "green" yet.

Same here. HUGE Mass Effect Fan. Love the series. I love games about aliens in this context.

However in the Fallout world aliens exist differently. They are the classic little green men with ray guns. Fallout 3 DLC proved they were to be hated. They cut up people for experiments. The hate for aliens in FO is based on the mentality of the time. Even now. The world may be 200+ years older since the bombs fell but the aliens visiting the DC wastelands with the hovering mother ship was only about 10 years ago.

So yeah. we hate the aliens. Much like the movie Mars Attacks... these little green men are not coming in peace. There is no peaceful Asari race out there.

So. Story: My friend bought a pack of 50 sci-fi B movies, I'm talking really bad, with films from the 90s all the way back to the 30s but mostly stuff set in the 50s. Movies like "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians", "Teenagers From Outer Space", or "The Wild Women of Wongo". My interpretation of Fallout's sci-fi kitsch is, if it's ridiculous enough to appear in a movie in that box, it's not too ridiculous for the Fallout universe. The box even had a bunch of old Hercules movies (which were some of the most entertaining ones >.>)... but then those are pretty much exactly what I'd imagine Grognak the Barbarian is like. So, ancient alien civilizations, people getting replaced with malicious synthetic copies, alien abductions, big-dumb-Hulk mutants, psychics, car-sized bugs, giant robots, it's all good.

Even disregarding Skynet, I hate the "it's okay because it's not actually canon" argument for all of the stupid random encounters and pop culture references in the first two games. It was still a part of the experience of playing those games, and they wouldn't have put all that stuff in their games if they wanted the Fallout universe to be taken seriously. I'm the guy that hates the concept of canon in the first place, though.

It doesn't help that the aliens they chose to include are incredibly generic and by the books.

i did play mothership zeta, and i liked it (easily better than operation anchorage anyway) - seen as just a gaming experience.

beyond that, i agree with what others had said, aliens just don't really blend in with the whole fallout topos.

they're 100% ok for a random crash site, laboratory or whatever along the lines of a "what the pre-war government hid from us" illustration (and to provide us with the notorious alien blaster of course :-)

but anything like mother- or landing ships (zeta included), aliens as recurring opponents (let alone alien hordes) or serious alien themed quests would push everything fallout was and is towards a direction that's just not according with that. aliens have no role in the, like, "framework" of fallout, they just feel like something unfitting that has been glued to it's hulk in posterior.

IF you wanted to introduce an alien theme into the fallout universe though, there's a WAY better approach to that in fallout 4 than the good old alien ship bs:

xenoarcheology and that stuff. if you played through the cabot-quest - that lost ancient (pre-human) alien city theme, pre-human alien artefacts or even aliens as the human race's ancestors etc, all this would work far better to infuse aliens into the fallout universe. kind of pumps them into it's veins rather than tucking them to it's skin :-)

i definitely hope we'll get a dlc featuring lorenzo cabot's said ancient alien city anyway :-)

I really don't like Mothership Zeta, but it has nothing to do with aliens, if that makes sense.

I find that the aliens are kinda silly to begin with, but I do enjoy that Fallout is sillier than other games, gives it a flavour that keeps it distinct from other universes, including TES. But no, Mothership Zeta was just a very linear corridor shooter that I didn't like at all, I find it a bit strange it even existed in the first place, but the past is the past.

If they were presented in a way that had more interactions than cleaning out a alien ship like they were demons on a mars base I would probably like it a lot more. Like it for Fallout 4 if we could steal all of the technology from a alien spacecraft and use it to build up our settlements with advanced tech as well as give/sell it to the factions our characters have aligned with. Especially since it would play into the heavy BOS presence in the game with "bust in and steal their technology" being how Maxson's outfit sees everything in the world.

Well, there is that infamous holotape.

But, yeah, Mothership Zeta isn't as terrible as everyone makes it out to be IMO. It's guilty of the same linearity issues Operation Anchorage has, but that's it.

where fnv overdid it (and on a pretty adolescent level quite a lot of times) in that regard for my tastes, i think fo4 somewhat underdoes it.

i could easily deal with a far higher wack dose anyway.

those types of aliens are fitting with the 50's pop culture interpretation of them, though.

//////////////

Thematically, aliens represent the same things that giant creatures and atomic men did; our technological curiosities will destroy us, with a dash of communism vs. capitalism. Space exploration/rockets and the like are very much tied into atomic age sci-fi.

If FO is about humanity wrecking itself, meddling with outer space is a part of that.

Okay. I need an explanation here. Because from what I know, that tape is cut content, and it was never in Mothership Zeta proper. And it doesn't even establish the aliens started the war, it only implies it - Fallout 4 actually gives us more evidence that the Chinese started the war. I remember collecting every alien recording in Mothership Zeta, and I never got this holotape. So what gives? If people are seriously making this much fuss over content that was cut from the DLC before it even came out, I'll scream.

I mostly liked it for the loot cache at the end - the questline itself was pretty mediocre, and Fallout 3 didn't really have good enough combat to experiment with a corridor shooter style expansion. But the Gauss Rifle and Winterized T-51 Power Armor is beautiful. I still use that loadout in Fallout 4.

The tape is in the game: the audio's missing.

Probably is cut content, but I'm just explaining the MZ-haters point of view, not my own.

Ugh, great, now it's forever stuck in a limbo of "improperly removed cut content?... or bugged actual content!?"

I think I'm going to scream anyway, because both of those outcomes are annoying.
