Have you seen it? What are your first impressions on this movie?

This is now the third Villeneuve movie that I loved since the opening scenes. I think it's good, Nolan good. It's not Interstellar, it doesn't have that feeling of grand scale but it's a more personal angle and Amy Adams gives a strong and emotional performance. The special effects are rather light, so that's not the main attraction to see the movie in the theater, but the sounds are fantastic, I'm glad I went to see it because I don't have high quality electronics at home and the sounds gave me goose bumps galore. I would recommend it to Interstellar, Inception or Moon fans.

I really enjoyed it.

I loved how the story was structured. It will definitely make a second viewing interesting in a whole different way.

Had a good premise and did some interesting things with its narrative structure. But the ending ruined it for me and just made the whole thing schmaltzy.

My sister and her hubby just saw this last Thursday. They both enjoyed it, but I have no seen it yet

Saw it last night, it's a solid 9/10. The trailer makes you think it's more action packed but it's actually pretty down to earth (

) and intimate. It's the type of movie I'll need to see twice to fully understand with some theory reading in betwwen.

For example I didn't understand the dialogue with the Chinese general, I mean

if it's only now, in the future, that he tells her what to say in the past to convince him, then what are the celebrating in the first place? She's supposed to have already solved the conflict but she doesn't seem to have a clue (now)what she did then

I think that's just her brain being weird, like her consciousness is moving between different points in time. I sort of wish they hadn't portrayed it like that but rather her experiencing all of it at the same time. I'm not sure how they would've done that though.

It took me until the very last shot of the movie to work out that she hadn't had a daughter in the past and all the scenes with her were post-aliens. Clever stuff.
