So it seems a 30 years later sequel to the classic Blade Runner is being made. I find it interesting but wonder what the point would be? Maybe we'll finally get confirmation on if Deckard really is a replicant. Ridley Scott is on board so that gives me some hope for the film. I'm excited but I'm not allowing myself to get hyped just yet.

I wasn't too interested until I learned who's directing it.

Very curious to see what Villenevue will do, because the man has been making some beautiful and complex movies so far.

I'm also glad it's a sequel, and not a reboot.

Hopefully, the really drawn on dike's work for inspiration, because he was one of the best of the genre.

Every time Harrison Ford been re-visiting his older stuff, I've ended up disappointed. Didn't care for Indiana Jones 4 or Star Wars 7, and I feel fairly certain I won't enjoy this new Blade Runner either :P

Which svcks, cause I adore the original Indy and Star Wars trilogies and love Blade Runner to bits.

Never heard of him or any of his films. Not surprising I guess since I live in the bubble known as America.

I am in the same boat. I hope they do not screw up that franchise. At least Scott is still on board. I still have not seen Stars Wars 7. and I am not really interested in seeing it. The last Indy movie was real bad.

To those talking about Ford's current run of franchise returns, it seems it's possible that he might have limited screen time.

"I can say that we shot for many months before Harrison [Ford] arrived, and obviously there was a lot of anticipation as to when he would show up and how that would be, and it was just a relief. The second he got to set, he just rolled up his sleeves and we all just got to work. It was a real great pleasure to get to work with him." - Ryan Gosling

IDk if I'm on board with a sequel, the first film, Director's Cut, Final Cut, Second to Final Cut, Last Cut and Deep Cut version was good enough and didn't seem to warrant a sequel, beside it's a little on the late side and after 30 years from the last film if Deckard hasn't died in those four years then he's human. Honestly I wouldn't mind watching the original Blade Runner with the narration.

It's never too late for a Hollywood cash grab.

Well the only theory that works (if Deckard is a replicant) is that he was like Rachael and had false memories to safeguard against the 4 year freak out they have. It is theorized that they did not have the 4 year limit and were 2 parts of the same experiment. Rachael being the control and Deckard being the actual test.

As for the reasoning of the sequel? The only thing I can think of is maybe he's being hunted?

I haven't watched all his stuff, but his newest is http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2543164/ that you likely heard of.
And then http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3397884/ was one of the top movies of 2015.

Of his older films, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2316411/ is amazing, but very mysteriously surreal like David Lynch.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1392214/ is also great.

Even if the new Bladerunner movie svcks, this guy will at least guarantee it being a visual masterpiece :P

If it's directed by the same guy as Arrival, there may just be something to look forward to with it.

That said, I find this sequel unnecessary and Hollywood being Hollywood. I bet 20 Kit-Kat bars that it will svck ass. And there is some value to those Kit-Kat bars. To me at least...

Don't forget Ridley Scott is producing and Hampton Fancher (the original BR screenwriter) is screenwriting. I feel that there may be some hope for it with those two on board.

20 Kit-Kat bars will not last 10 seconds around me. They are an endangered species around me.

I wish they would try inventing new worlds instead of rehashing old ones all the time. That said, the new Star Wars films seem to be decent, so who knows.

So far the one released new one was good even though they played it way too safe and basically copied IV. You can see great potential there and I think with Rogue One we will see what they can do.

Looks like I'll have to up the ante to 50 Kit-Kat bars. Though you'll still only be getting 20, because I ain't buying 50 Kit-Kat bars and not eating some of it. :teehee:

Yep, we do indeed live in a time of rehashes and needless sequels. Though it does seem like Star Wars has been the exception.

We'll just have to see what this sequel to Blade Runner brings. Might start something magical and turn one hit movie into an amazing series of Blade Runner films. Or it will svck like most of these Hollywood attempts. Still incline to believe in the latter.

You know I never seen Blade Runner and I grew up in the 80's and 90's. I don't know it's just one of those movies that simply passed me by. Unless I watched it with my parents on vhs when I was a little kid in the 80's, and did not understand what I was watching.

I'm not really looking forward to this, but it sounds like they have a good team that gives it a chance.

I'm not bothered (much) by disappointing or even horrible sequels anymore. I just accept the original movie was great, and rewatch it when I'm in the mood. I've seen the Matrix around 6 times. I've seen the sequels once. Poor sequels leave a bad taste that lingers and hurts the originals by association for a little while, but then it fades and it's all good.

If you like sci-fi at all you should watch it. Rutger Hauer is amazing, the cinematography is amazing, the sets are amazing. The story and themes are smart and surprisingly deep. It's only loosely based on the source material, but it's one of those rare cases where it's actually as good as the original, though significantly different.

So when can we expect the directors cut?

What kind of Kit-Kats. Mint, Dark Mint, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate or even Orange or Caramel flavour.

Or perhaps you would prefer a Tunnuck's Wafer Caramel.

It's a must watch for any fan of scifi. Also to help with understanding, if you're a fan of Ghost in the Shell then you'll love this movie. They call to many of the same themes and philosophy, though dealing with androids instead of humans with prosthetic bodies.

I looked on my viewing services and neither Netflix nor Amazon Prime are carrying the original Blade Runner. I was going to make a determined effort to watch it, but it's not going to happen.

Maybe we will get a producers cut of the film. Then maybe the Definitive Producers Cut.
