Question for those who own both consoles.

Hello. :)

I have asked Santa for an xbox 1 for Christmas.

He has told me to think about it.

He also said on xbox we are forced to purchase the plus option.

Please tell me what you know about the differences between the two consoles.

This is not an argument post. If it becomes that I will ask for it to be locked.

I would like to know also if you notice any difference while playing. He says you can hook an external drive to the xbox. I have ps3 and ps4. I do not have ps plus.

Thank you. :)

Well you will need a free silver Xbox live account, if it's like the Xbox 360, but the Gold membership is only necessary if you intend on playing multiplayer games, I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Both consoles work the same. Neither forces you to pay for a Plus/Gold account.

You need to pay to play multiplayer (and get the monthly free games,) but a free account is all you need to use the standard features of your games.

Some games might need the gold account for some features but usually those are MMO type games. Some other games might have a requirement for the Gold but they will state it. Maybe some early access games will need Gold.

If you might be looking into making the Xbox One into an entertainment center you might want or need the gold account for some of those features. I think I just downloaded the Blu-ray app since I do not have any other device that plays Blu-rays. I have not used it yet since I have no Blu-ray movies yet. They cost way too much here. I do not recall if I needed anything but the standard Silver.

Hi. I have owned Xbox One for a little over a year now, and just recently purchased a PS4 about 2 months ago. So far I haven't had any problems with the Xbox One. It has been working well for me.

It is my opinion that the PS4 menu is easier to navigate.

Both of them have nice comfortable controllers but I will give a slight edge to the PS4 because I have small hands (and a little arthritis).

I do not have the Xbox Gold so I can't tell you much about that.

Yes the menus can be tricky and difficult to navigate and it seems to get worse whenever they update the OS. The worst part is the store and trying to input the cash cards so you can buy games.

I do not have a PS4. I might look to get one in the future, even though I have the worst of luck with Sony products with only the PSP I am pleased with the quality and it still works after having it for 8 years.

It's probably one of those bad luck cases. I've been using Sony products my whole life, never had a single issue with anything I got from them (maybe I'm just a lucky case tho, can go both ways haha).

In my personal opinion Xbox One is better.

Better user interface, better exclusives (subjective), better customer support, backwards compatibility, better controller and a better an independent program. The Scorpio is also coming soon which is much more powerful than the PS4 Pro.

I think Xbox Gold and PS Plus are about on par with each other in terms of value.

PC is obviously better than both but X1 is definitely the pinnacle of consoles. But of course this is just my opinion.

I like Xbox for the controllers and the better working ES games. I also like the Indie stuff it offers.

I like PC & PS4, but they're just a hassle for me to get working sometimes. I'm just better suited to the Xbox.

But if I could only get one console, I'd get a Nintendo, every time. No question. Their IPs blow everything out of the water for me.

Great time to pick up an XBox ONE or a PS 4.

Great prices on both consoles and games.

If you're getting and XBox ONE you WILL need XBox LIVE if you want to really enjoy your games and get the most out of them.

You will need an External Hard Drive if you plan to have and keep a number of games.

There are lots of great games available and it's much cheaper to get them on disc. Microsoft's digital store is ridiculously expensive. Sony is just as bad.

When you load an XBox ONE Disc for the first time it will install the game to the hard drive. To avoid spending hours while the game attempts to both install the disc AND download all updates at the same time... 1 - Disconnect from the internet and install the game and let it download to the hard drive. 2 - Connect to the internet and select the game to prompt installation of essential updates.

Hope some of that is helpful.

My daughter has a PS4. I have not used it so I cannot comment on it but she has used my xbox and she likes my xbox better. Whether it's a better system or it's just personal preference I do not know. I tried to get her to tell me exactly what it is she likes better but all I can get is vague answers. Kids. *sigh*

Both consoles are easy to navigate through the menus, and both require either PlayStation Plus or Xbox Gold membership to play online. One perk with the Xbox, though, is that it offers backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games and they continue to add more games to the BC list every week. Both consoles have exclusive games (like Forza for Xbox), so that's just a personal preference if you like certain games that are exclusive. Other than those things both consoles are pretty much the same. I have both and honestly I prefer the Xbox over PlayStation. I bought the PlayStation because of games that are exclusives but if I had to pick one, I'd say the Xbox has my vote.

Both systems require subs for online play, so choosing between the two boils down to one simple thing: which exclusives do you tend to like more. Both play blurays and both do virtually the same thing. Exclusives are literally what sets consoles apart.

The exception being the Xbox Ones backwards compatibility. If you dig 360 games it's a plus. If not, it's irrelevant.
