Vigilantes of Stendarrs are weak

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 1:02 am

So I decided to go werewolf for a while (it was actually great not using my magic and weapons, and just using raw power) and I keep approaching this group and they don't give me any struggle when killing them. They're suppose to hunt werewolves and daedras huh? Sounds like a group of suicidal people to me.

I find myself struggling more with the city guards then these group of people.

Yeah when I went to massacre their outpost as a werewolf I was like...."Wow, only thing things guys are dragging into the light are some beach towels and sun block". Even the Silver-hand at least gave off the impression they were a threat, what with all the werwolf heads laying around and the silver weapons actually did a fair bit more damage than normal ones.

Icing on the cake is they really have no quest connection. They're just......there. Totally useless faction meant to provide some kind of counterpoint to all the daedric activity I guess.

But they will cure any diseases you pick up. Didn't find this out until my fourth playthrough - but it's pretty useful in the early stages when you're low on cash and potions.

I have found dead Vigilants that have been killed by opponents my characters can easily kill, but I have also seen them actually do very well against Vampires and some Mages. They could have made a decent sidequest/faction, but they really end up as a source of potions or some beginner enchanted gear.

To be fair they also have a shrine in the hall of the vigilant, and really any shrine will cure any disease. Plus their hall is really out in the middle of nowhere.

They have a tower SSE of Riften, way up on the mountain. I found it while exploring corners I hadn't been to yet.

First a wood elf with a staff of conjure familiar attacked me, and while looting him, I noticed a steep trail up the mountain. So I went up, saw the tower and assumed it was a bandit keep. Followed a left branch until I found some large blood stains, one after another. Hm, this here be troll marks! Sure enough, I found one. I kept his interest alive with an occasional arrow and kited him to the tower, figuring I could get the bandits involved. To my surprise, they were Vigilants. Two of the three died to the troll. The survivor cured me of rock joint, or something, and I headed down the opposite of where I'd come up to the tower, and found an angry, hungry cave bear. I ran back to the tower and that bear just barely survived long enough to kill the vigilant. So I punched the bear on the nose and finished him off.

Vigilants are a good source for the Amulets of Stendarr, btw.

The Vigilants of Stendarr were unfinished by the 11/11/11 "deadline", and so were thrown in "as is" along with the current Vampirism. The "Dawnguard" expansion should flesh it out though.
