PS Vita vs iPhone 5

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 9:11 pm

First off, I had an iPhone 4 and between the antennae problem and the glitchiness, it frankly annoyed the crap outta me (and taught me patience). I do believe the iPhone 5 will fix these problems, but I'm in the market for a gaming device, and the Apple store has much more plentiful inexpensive games compared to the PS Store's less amount of higher-priced (but higher-quality) games. Honestly, I didn't really enjoy my PSPgo but the PSV looks SO much better, as seems the iPhone 5 to its predecessor. WHICH SHOULD I GET?!

Why would you get an iPhone as a gaming device?

- The iPhone 5 hasn't even been announced yet

- The rumors are that the iPhone 5 is going to be "complicated" technically speaking, which means a higher chance for issues, not a lower one.

- It's stupid to go out and get the latest version of anything just because you need the latest version

- You should get and Android phone instead

- Go with the Vita.

I'd go with the next iPhone. I have an iPhone 4 and love it to death, and it's my primary portable gaming device. It's accessible and the games are cheap. A PSP is another device to lug around with you, and many of the games are much too involved to play while waiting for the bus. 'Real' games are what your PC/Console is for.*

*That's not to say that the iPhone doesn't have involved games, it's just that it has a wider selection of casual games.

EDIT: I know you're going to kill me DEFRON, but from my (admittedly limited) experience with Android it doesn't have close to the gaming options the App Store has.

Then why on earth would one possibly want an iPhone?

Keep it and get a Vita, that way you have a great smartphone and a dedicated gaming platform.

Handhelds have had as many, if not more, 'real' games than home consoles this generation. The PSV will surely offer the best of both worlds, much like the PSP and DS do now. A good balance of casual titles for the short-term and deeper experience for when you might want them.

I am a bit bias though. I'm pretty stubborn when it comes to smartphone gaming and their lack of buttons.

You'd really rather sit down with a PSP than on your desktop with a gaming chair and full surround sound, while playing your DX11 enabled games in 1080p? Go ahead.

Most games are available on both, and those that aren't are quickly becomming so. Not to mention Android means you can play flash-based games online.

Wow, I was completely unaware of the sudden surge of PC-based awesome JRPGs available in the US. Even better since they all apparently have DX11 support and offer the same story as their PSP and DS counterparts.

I'd rather sit down and play good games period. Which system they're on and how they look matters little. Following that criteria, iOS doesn't even enter the picture.

While they are few and far between, and mostly RPGs, the Ipod does have some awesome games. Aralon comes to mind and Chaos Rings was a damn good JRPG. Obviously a system made for gaming would be superior though.

My point was that involved games on handhelds are a lot rarer and generally aren't as good as they are on PC. Yes, of course there are the odd few that are worth playing on a tiny screen with limited control options, but just as many aren't worth the hassle, IMHO.

Which is why I said iOS offers more accessible, casual games than PSP.

I suggest iPhone5 - or Android smartphone

cheaper than PSV and it has more functionality, as in, you can use it to call people.

Since you already need to carry a phone around with you everywhere, no need to have two different handheld devices.

Do you REALLY want to lug around yet another device everywhere? IMO the PS Vita would be extra dead weight.

If you're playing demanding games on your smart phone, you probably won't have enough battery life to make those needed phone calls :P

Sorry, but I also can't help but laugh at you saying an android phone or iphone is cheaper than the PSV, because that's not the case. If you get it subsidized then you are locked into a contract and must pay the necessary fees as such, if you get it out of a contract they are certainly more expensive than a PSV. The PSV has no such necessary contracts.

Also, a smart phone does not have more functionality than the PSV, just different functionalities.

Edit: in the end, the OP's choice is a non-choice considering the iPhone 5 isn't just around the corner and hasn't even been announced.

You want to be the trendy boy get iPhone 5. You want to play real games, get PSV. You want both, get both, I see no conflict for th two. As long you have the chips.

See? This is why marketing and business these days is a complete joke and why Apple is a laughable company.

In early days people didn't pay for products they didn't like. That changed drastically however with people paying a ton just because it comes from Apple even if the product worse than other products that are actually cheaper.

He complains about the iPhone 4 and mentions it annoyed him and at the same time he tells us without any facts and sources that he thinks it will be fixed in the iPhone 5 just because he cannot live without every single item around him coming from Apple.
As if it doesn't hurt enough that the majority of kids and teenagers all have iPhone 4's just cause it's from Apple and they wanna show off to their little clueless friends.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 because it was one of the best smartphones at that time, arguably the best, not because I love Android or Samsung. I wished people would actually start using their brain so the industry can return to how it was before when companies needed to improve their products to survive, not try to become popular with kids and clueless customers.

And as if it wasn't enough, he's 14, thank you Apple.
