What's the best 10" tablet?

Post » Thu Oct 11, 2012 4:22 pm

Whilst I constantly argued against the need for mobile computing in the past when it came to smartphones and tablets, which I never frankly saw a use for in place of a laptop or decent multifunctional phone, I have recently seen the light after purchasing my first Android device: a Samsung Galaxy Note. Having been with it now for around 5 months, this tablet/phone hybrid with a large 5.3" display has been a delight to use and use it I have - rather frequently actually. I love being able to check my Facebook, emails and more on the go thanks to my data plan and not having to turn my laptop to simply check something quickly online is such a blessing! However, since I will eventually replace this device with a new phone (which likely won't have such a large display as few phones do compare with this) and I also want to retire my laptop from such heavy usage, a 10" (7" is simply not a large enough increase over my phone) tablet computer. Since I constantly move about the house from the living room to the bedroom and coupled with the ability to read and watch videos in bed, a tablet seems a rather cool investment. But, like many people, I don't have an abundance of money. Does anyone know of a well-priced 10" tablet?

It is an awesome tablet, but I don't really care for the keyboard dock since I'll still be using my laptop and that things even more expensive than an iPad. I was thinking below £400 GBP...

You don't have to get the dock, it's perfectly functional without it. Without the dock it's cheaper. Here, it's cheaper than the iPad is.

The Transformer Infinity and Galaxy Note 10.1 are the two tablets to consider.

I would consider the Galaxy Note 10.1. It's all of the features of your Galaxy Note smartphone on a large 10 inch screen and features optimized for the large screen.

However, unless you get a data plan for the Galaxy Note 10.1 (I don't know if you can) it won't be as useful as your phone was. You won't be able to use your tablet everywhere like you can your phone unless you have a data plan for it.

I'd go with this, the optional keyboard dock is way more useful than I thought.

All bias aside, the iPad is actually a pretty good device. What with the stupid amounts of apps and games that are available on iOS but not android.

If you don't mind the ~3in difference (which you said 7in was to small) the Nexus 7 is probably the best tablet I've run across with a great price:performance. I got the 16GB model for $250 and it just blows away the competition at that price point.

I guess to me size doesn't matter

I stopped counting how many times I almost bought a Transformer. I REALLY want one, but my netbook is doing just fine for the tasks I would need the Tablet for. It makes me sad actually. :(

I want one too and I'd have no use for one.

You should get one. They have great battery life and usually have dedicated apps for anything you need, not to mention games. Accompanied with the keyboard dock, they make a great laptop replacement.

Or like me you think you'd have a use for one then you buy it and realize you never leave your apartment.

I still have to buy a charger for mine. Been 3 months or so but I don't even use it.

My girlfirend has the Google Nexus 7 and it's so awesome! It runs like a beast and it was very well priced.
