Why are the Theif's Guild so lazy ?

Post » Mon Sep 03, 2012 5:44 pm

It just came to me the other day....

Once you complete all the main quests for the Theif's Guild it's then up to you to complete smaller tasks to help build the reputation. But why am i the only one doing all the work ? it seems like the rest of the Guild just spend their time wandering about inside their sewer base. I mean what exactly are they doing to improve the reputation ? are they out doing work too or do they just sit about all day ? no wonder the place was a mess before i arrived to sort them out.

This post is just more of an observasion i've had but i think the guild members should of accompanied you on the random tasks and so on, at least it would make them look like they're doing something.

You could easily accuse any quest giver in any RPG of being lazy.

True story ! well yeah if everybody wasn't so lazy and handled their own business then we would never get any quests and it would be an unbelievably boring game i suppose, and i didn't even consider those random thief's you see wandering about trying to steal from you. I've not seen any for ages so i kinda forgot about them. At least some of them are putting in a shift then.

not every quest giver is lazy, i remember the guard at kavatch's (spelling?) gate, he battled hordes of angry deadra while you got to go on a nice trip to the deadlands

Because the thieves guild members are a bunch of lazy reprobates that simply want to hang out in a sewer and make money off you your work. They call you guildmaster just to try to make you think you're important and so get you to do all your work. It's just a scam from scammers.

At least that's the way I figure it.

Oh god, i feel so used by them now

im quite happy with my Nightingale armor though, it makes me feel superior when im out and about in Skyrim. But their sewer is disgusting, ah well i think i'll be retiring from the Guild into my massive custom made mansion soon enough. Something none of my peasant theif's will ever get.

How do you know they are in the Guild when you are on a mission? For all you know, they are out doing work everything you go out. But they all know to be back in time for you so that you don't complain about them not being there when you need to find them.

The alternative...

The rain batters the windows of the manor house in Solitude. The guards heads bowed down as you pass silently behind. Quietly you scale the walls and enter an upstairs window. Inside, you notice a servant going about her business. Waiting till she is distracted, you skilfully remove the set of keys she is carrying and make your way down to the basemant. Dodging a number of skeevers, you work your way down a narrow corridor and enter a room at the other end. Inside you see Vex. She is struggling with an ancient lock, her fingers a blur, she notices you.

"I heard you're offering extra work"
"I handle the burglary, shill, sweep and heist jobs. Most of them involve breaking and entering. If you don't want that, speak to Delvin"

Edit: Actually, that sounds quite good when I put it like that!

The dark brotherhood does jobs when you're away. They're talking about them whenever you're around. And yes the thieves in the flagon are all the lieutenants. They organize various jobs for all the guys hanging out in the cistern. These are the guys attacking you on the road (although it would be nice if they would recognize the guild master) and getting killed in riften.
