Why can't I make a wooden sword? : V

So far I've only been able to find one in a store and I've got two kids to spoil.

I've built one entire house and part of another. I've built my own furniture and forge. I've crafted a suit of armor and weapons from dragon bones animal pelts and ebony ore that I killed or dug up myself. Why dose the fine art of fashioning a to stick look kind of like a sword so elude?
