If YOU designed the final encounter, how would you do it?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 11:24 pm

Back up, back up the first Dragonborn does not need back up, did Darth vader ever use back up" NO",
Did Bruce Lee ever use back up" NO".

It's going to be one on one thunder dome rules.

he doesn't have to be charismatic and philosophical though. just determined. after all, determination in the driving force behind almost every great person.

Arguing that he doesn't have to be charismatic and philosophical is like arguing that he doesn't have to be mindlessly evil. OP asked what sort of enemy would I've liked if I could choose so I presented my arch-nemesis. Just for a change I'd like him to be smart, but I doubt I'll have my wish. Determination is 50/50 imo. I've seen people REALLY determined to do stupid things. :)

I want to Fus Ro Dah him off of a high ledge with slow-mo and the works. It would be the most iconic moment in Skyrim. (Don't let me hear a bunch of people telling me it won't work " 'cause he's a-too powerful " I get that. Maybe we could find a way around it)

How would I do it? Brief outline:

PC is led to Solstheim by the GBs... could be a number of ways... possible Alduin return, time wound, whatever, just need to flesh it out a bit.

PC gets to Solstheim, see trailer... learns of Dragon lore, and of the Dragon Priest. If the answer to the PCs questions are to be found, they'll be found in the Dragon Priest's temple.

Several scrolls and books later, nothing... but a spell to summon the Dragon Priest, ask him questions directly. And that's where it all goes horribly wrong. Thinking the Priest bound was a mistake, he transforms into a dragon and escapes.

Find the Priest's phylactery and even though you've set him free, you can call him again. Problem, no one knows where the phylactery is, but possible the answer lies in Blackreach.

Back to Skyrim, to Blackreach, and find a library in the Falmer city with references to the Priest and his origins in a small town in Solstheim near a Dwemer ruin. The town is buried, but may still be accesible from the ruin.

Delve, huge Dwemer ruin, a small colony of throwback Snow Elves, and the ancient Skaal village.

Find the phylactery, call the Priest. Oops, find yourself in Apocrypha, teleported across realms to where the Priest is (general, in Apocrypha) and not vice versa.

HM knows where the DP is, so... get to him, then the DP, then end game, an aerial battle on dragons, crash and burn, continue on terra firma.

HM "reward" for ridding his realm of the pest... a choice... the knowledge of making spells and staves OR the knowledge to makes Stahlrim weapons and armor OR the knowledge of a vast treasure hidden in the Pilgrim's Path and the artifact used to find it (which will also work elsewhere), detect gold and gems.

i would have u battling the dragonborn on your dragon in the sky and you would have to use a speical staff or spell or shout that weakens him temporarely. the dragonborn of course would need the abillity to fly or also ride a dragon and have double the health of a dragon priest but half the damage of a legendary dragon and could use the suns energy to perform powerful attacks.

Actually, its very logical. Not every individual has a logical or quantifiable reason for doing what they do. You need to recognize the cases where they apply and not waste time trying to understand why they are doing what they are doing.

The Joker is one such (fictional) example. There are a few real world serial killers that didn't really have any reason for killing beyond doing so because they could.

that depends on who is the actually last adversary. I hope Miraak is not.
I much prefer your approach to the OPs. Its how I would do it too.

Honestly, I just want it to be cinematical, take the Dawnguard approach to the confrontation with Arch-Curate Vyrthur, That created 'epic' in my eyes. I don't want it to be a "I see him/he sees me... And then we fight," I want a confrontation of words first, perhaps he tries to persuade us. Perhaps we'll have a couple of 'nameless dragons' that try to help us defeat him, but just for a show of strength he kills them quickly w/ some epic finishing moves on them. I don't want it to take place on just one level, but on multiple levels or even have it start in Apocrypha and finish out in Tamriel.

1) The confrontation will start in Apocrypha, on the threshold of the entrance into Tamriel. The only thing stopping him is you. He makes his case, his offer as he stalks around you. He finally stands before you less than twenty feet away. You deny the offer. He force shouts you to the ground and calls upon his cult followers and HM Daedra.

2) After finally defeating the last of the fodder, he paralyzes you/sets up a barrier between you and he and tells you why he is the way he is and what he means to do as well. With that he Thu'um's you w/ a shout that tears your dragonborn abilities from you, leaving you unconscious in Apocrypha.

3) You wake up to find the portal close and Miraak (DB) gone. A booming voice mocks your attempts to stop DB and in the same breath offers cryptic help but it comes with a price; becoming his champion. Accepting his offer he shows tells you how to shout out (DB's) Dragonborn ability and he opens up the portal to Tamriel to confront (DB) once more. If you deny his offer, you must discover, on your own, both shout and exit from Apocrypha (taking the longer route). You learn that the shout is a "one time deal" that can be used by anyone and that you can only use it on a (DB) when he is in a weakened state.

4) Once you finally escape you find destruction in both Solstheim and Skyrim. After cleaning up messes and killing off cultists and HM Daedra, you find out that (DB) has made his way to High Hrothgar to kill off the Greybeards. You make your way to High Hrothgar to find it in shambles, two of the Greybeards are injured and one dead. You ask one of the injured where (DB) has gone and they reply that he's on top of the Throat of the World. You make your way up there to find Arngeir confronting Miraak. As you come upon the scene, Arngeir shouts at (DB) but to no avail. (DB) laughs at the attempt and shouts back at Arngeir, shouting him off the side of the mountain. You step forward to confront him once more.

5) He commends you and calls you a fool for facing him without your Dragonborn ability. He starts to take a step towards you when three dragons swoop in to attack him. After getting a couple sneak attacks on him, he dispatches two of them with some epic H2H finishing moves (absorbing their souls) and when the final dragon comes forward, he shouts at the dragon, tearing its soul from the dragon, making it completely under his control. He steps onto the dragon's back and comments about making things a bit more interesting. Just as the dragon comes forward, a fellow (named) dragon lands next to you and breathes fire upon dragon and rider causing them to fly up. He then urges you upon his back where he takes you to the skies...

6) You dogfight in the skies for sometime until your dragon defeats his own (but not before severely injuring your dragon) where they crashland back on the Throat of the World. Once you land back down on the ground before (DB), your dragon mentions that he will return and flies off. You face (DB) once more. He throws a few shouts at you, knocking you down, and casts magic at you a few times as you use your 'non-dragonborn' abilities to fight him off. Finally after wearing him down, you shout at him, taking his Dragonborn ability from him. At that point, you take the kill shot on him ending his life.

7) His body starts convulsing as Hermaeus Mora's voice and void appear overhead stating that nothing is as simple and within (DB) is a spawn of Hermaeus Mora. Just then, tentacles burst out of (DB's) chest, growing and forming into something in Hermaeus Mora's image. Our character struggles against this mass of tentacles, slowly losing the battle until that (named) dragon returns with many, many other dragons as well as Paarthunax. Together, you and they tear/rip/cut each tentacle until there is nothing left. Finally you take the killing blow, sending it back to Apocrypha.

8) Congratulating you, Hermaeus grants you a few parting gifts, perhaps one being the ability to summon Hermaeus Mora's daedra and tells you he'll see you soon

THE END

P.S. You find an alive, yet injured Arngeir recovering on the ground in the courtyard of High Hrothgar where he finally landed, thanking you.

Can we please reference Dawnguard as little as possible? PS3 user over here.
But a nice fight you've planned out! Too many Greybeards are dead for my tastes, but it certainly has some interesting ideas.

When defeated the main baddie explodes in a shower of sweet rolls, cheese wheels and moon sugar, followed by an acrobatic Khajiit musical dance number depicting the events of the k'sharra prophecy while Khajiit children are adopted by their Khajiit married parents who're celebrating the unspoken Khajiit marriage ban being lifted in Skyrim.
