Do you thieves ever get lonely?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 5:31 pm

I have to roll without a companion because they screw over us sneaky types, but I'm starting to feel a little lonely :x. So much so that I'm considering rerolling, 38 hours in. Anyone else in the same situation?

Not really. Just get married and return home every once in awhile. Or have a companion only when your not sneaking. You can get a free on in Whiterun in the bar after beating her up.

Edit: I never get lonely, and I'm a thief, so I don't know how to help.

I suspect you're using Lydia or the woman from the inn at Whiterun as your companion, they are wearing heavy armour.

Try picking up a companion with light armour, preferably a bard or a hunter. The bard in the inn at Riverwood, for example.

The aspect of being alone is one of the reasons I like being a sneak. I like the challenge. I've taken great pleasure in completing some quests without firing a single shot from the bow or swinging a blade. The occasional quest that requires me to have a companion can sometimes annoy me. Like some quests when you have another sneak as your companion, they're supposedly better than me, yet they manage to step on every single trigger plate.

Do sneaky companions actually work? I'm an archer BTW.

Yep, you can get Aela as a companion after completing the Companion's questline and she's quite stealthy.

I just order my companion to specific spots in dungeons or tell them to stay somewhere until i need them. I like to set Lydia up somewhere that she will attract attention then i roll up from behind and backstab everyone hacking away at her. Or i just send her home and go it solo.

I made the mistake of bringing Lydia with me while sneaking through goldglow estate... If a guard even walked near her she started attacking, blowing my cover. This was while i ordered her to wait too... I even sent her across the lake the wait and she aggro'd. After, i sent her packing and havent looked back.

Companions are crap while sneaking. They don't sneak well, they don't try to hide in shadows, and many times they just reveal your position.

However, they can make good set-up dummies!

For instance, you tell your companion to "wait here". Then, you go get a nice sneaky position somewhere ahead of them. As soon as their wanna-be sneakiness fails and the NPC runs up to great them, you watch him run on by and catch him with a Backstab before he even gets close to your companion. With a 6x Backstab, its pretty much instagib.

That said, no, I don't get lonely on my sneaky type without a companion... unless I see a dragon. :)
