I know to marry Ysolda in Whiterun you have to do her favor. From what I've read the is some sort of dialog with her that leads to her asking you to bring her a mamoth tusk. I have tried talking to he but there are only two dialog options and both have to do with the tradeing caravans. She never asks about a mamoth tusk. I have even tried to approach her and talk to her with a tusk in my inventory and nothing. Talked to her with the amulet on just to see if maybe the marriage dialog would come up without the favor and no go.

Those of you that married her, how did you get the option to marry her??? Or get the option to do the favor?

Did you actually talk to her about the trading caravans? Some NPCs, like Ysolda, will only give you a quest AFTER you talk to them about various things.

yes, i did both conversation option but both just lead to her explaining a few thing about the caravans then nothing else.

Talk to her about the caravans and she'll reveal to you she's learning to be a merchant from one of the khajiit traders, who wants her to bring him a mammoth tusk to prove herself.

hummm?? Ok, so you have to bring a mammoth tusk to the traders not to her? Where are these traders?

I had a dialogue option to offer to get a tusk for her... or maybe I'm thinking of a different npc in whiterun... I don't know but I gave the tusk to her and she went on about her business....

I had the same thing today. You are supposed to bring the tusk to Ysolda. However, when I talked with her, I went through all of her conversation options twice and the quest to get her the tusk never appeared.

There's something strange about that quest.

The first time that I spoke to her she mentioned the tusk. But I was busy so I said "Good luck with that."

Later I came across a mamoth tusk as loot so I brought it to her and could never get that dialogue option again.

Might be a timing thing.

Well I figured out the problem. These "rare gift" quests are mutually exclusive. So if you have one in your active quests list the other will not trigger till the activated one is completed. I havd the quest for Jorgen and Lami in my list so i had to complete that. Once that was completed the convo option for Ysolda's quest became available.
