Anyone NOT Having Problems with 1.4 Patch?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 1:32 pm

Or better yet, improved performance? I am reading so many complaints about it that I'm affraid to upgrade. I don't have any mods installed.

Version 1.3.10 was running fine till I hit level 54 (+/- 19Mb save file size)... then I suddenly started crashing every 5 mins. or so around Riften and Falkreath, so I just quit that game and restarted with a new character. Still have unfinished business with the first one though, so I'd like to try 1.4 to see if that fixes the CTD's, but I'm worried about potentially making things worse...

Mines fine. The only problem I had with Skyrim were the random/location CTDs. 1.4 fixed that and I'm having no cletchs or graphical or performance problems at all. Game works fun.

I've tested the beta a bit. Had no problems.
From what I've read on the beta forums most people were fine with the patch.
Performance is a great deal better, some quests have been fixed and apparently save-game bloat is less of a problem, too.

Just back up your saves, your data folder and the tesv.exe/launcher exe and you should be able to revert back to 1.3 if you encounter any problems.

Same here. Improved FPS and no CTDs with patch 1.4.21. Game works flawlessly, I have fewer problem than ever since I updated.

I've had no problems with 1.4 for now, but only played shortly as I only had 2 quests to complete before I was done - Missing stone in Thalmor Embassy + getting married (I love how Aela looks with he face painting)

I've shelved the game for now waiting on DLC news as I just got in the Diablo 3 beta so I'm spending some time in that game for the next little while.

I may restart another skyrim character later as a full mage (was a sneak/archer/one-hand this past session).

NOPE! No problems with 1.4 patch here, been using over 1GB of mods, some shadows tweaks, else on Ultra....
Great patch btw, performance increase, stability increase....

People with problems usually tend to be people with overclocked hardware, messed up windows/system and overtweaked .ini files... oh! and that [censored]es like FXAA injectors and enbseries are major screw ups....
I maintain a fairly clean gaming deskop pc with mid-end hardware and never had major problems with Skyrim.... or any other....

No major problems here. At least no new ones. Some new (and minor) AI goofiness came with 1.4, but no instability and a nice FPS gain.

no problems here - I had one CTD in over 40hrs of play on earlier patches, not had any more in another 30hrs on the new patch. Plus I can run the game at much higher settings with a higher frame rate than before.

If I was you and everything is working fine on the previous patch, backup all your saves and ini's, set a restore point (I think this is only Windoze 7 and maybe Vista?) then upgrade. If it kills your game, then revert to the restore point and copy your saves back over and you'll be able to play on the old patch :)

*raises hand*

To be fair, I wasn't having that many issues (performance-wise; quest bugs were another matter...) prior to 1.4, but 1.4 certainly hasn't hurt my game in any way. It just works the GPU a bit harder. Overall I'm happy with the patch, especially considering the quest bug fixes, and that some tweaks to the scripting seems to have shaken some content loose (like bards now playing new music in taverns).

I would guess that most people who aren't having problems don't bother reading and posting in the PC forum which deals with problems. I am quite happy with the results of the patch, it is far superior to the 1.1 and 1.3 versions of the game. Just remember that a number of mods which were written to deal with performance issues are not patch friendly, some of them become unnecessary and all of them need to be updated to run with latest version or they will break your game. Simple texture replacers seem to work fine and usually aren't version dependent anyway.

Thanks all for the responses and the tips regarding which files to back up (was wondering which ones). I figured those without any problems wouldn't have anything to post - which makes sense - so I just wanted to make sure there were some out there.
