Enchanting - Give me some ideas.

Hi.

I'm quite new with Skyrim and I would like to get some tips for enchanting. I know how the stuff works, but could you guys give me some hints about which weapons to destroy for enchantments and which kind of enchant items would you make. I'm playing as Wood Elf focusing bows and sneaking.

Hi.

I'm quite new with Skyrim and I would like to get some tips for enchanting. I know how the stuff works, but could you guys give me some hints about which weapons to destroy for enchantments and which kind of enchant items would you make. I'm playing as Wood Elf focusing bows and sneaking.

I have been thinking about this quite a bit. I am currently playing a mage, and so I don't use weapons or armor much, but will do the assassin character on my next play through. I have enchanted bows and clothing quite a bit. I am currently lvl 48.

At low level, you should use the enchanted bows you find. But after a while, you should disenchant pretty much every new enchant that you find.

I think I will work towards the 2 enchant perk as soon as possible (have it now, but I am referring to my next play through). For a bow, I will probably carry 2 bows. One with a paralyze enchant, and the other with a soul trap enchant (hard to find items to disenchant with these abilities at lower levels, so probably elemental enchants at first). Once I get to the 2 enchant perk, I will add elemental damage to each bow (actually by making 2 new bows) and carry both of them. I don't care for the enchants that scare the bad guys into running away, I want to sort them out right a way!

You want all the fortify bow + 1h weapons on your gear to amp up the damage. When applicable, you want to throw in magic resistance, though that's still broken as of this post. Bethesda promised us a fix for that by the end of the week, or you could revert to playing without a patch. Keep in mind the Lord's Stone + Agent of Mara abilities give 40% total of magic resistance. Finally you want some fortify sneak on your character. If you're going for the Shadow Warrior perk, you will naturally have silent movement so there's no need for muffled enchanted boots.

If you want some free gear for your sneaky bow using wood elf without leveling a single point of smithing/enchantment/alchemy, an easy method is to get into the Dark Brotherhood and get shrouded gear. Its head, gloves and feet components have decent enchantments (+20% bow damage, muffled footsteps, double critical damage) that helps sneaky characters up until midway through the game.

You can also make fortify lockpicking + water breathing on rings, amulets and circlets. I also use 2 rings to reduce restoration spells cost as I rely heavily on Respite to recharge stamina in combat.

For dual wielding I will go with fire+frost on one weapon with shock+soul trap on another. I've tried absorb stamina before on a 2h deadric greataxe and the returns per power swing wasn't that great. Anyway if your character is doing 600+ damage per swing it doesn't really matter what enchantments you use - most foes die in 1 hit so additional absorb or elemental damage is mostly to give your weapons a cool greenish glow.
