Need help with smithing

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 9:15 pm

Currently I have 100 smithing skill and most of the perks except for glass and
dragon armor, but when I try to improve an elven bow from epic to flawless at
the grindstone I get the message that I do not have the required skill.
What else do I need here?

I think Epic is higher than Flawless. If you have 100 smithing and the correct perk for the material, it should go up to "Legendary". At least mine do. :-)

If its magical you need the middle perk on the smithing tree "Arcane Blacksmith" to enhance enchanted items.

There is a guide on upgrading weapons here:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Smithing

It looks like legendary is the best, and you do that at level 91 smithing.

Also, I believe (I am not 100% sure) that without the arcane blacksmith perk you can not improve an enchanted item. But if you are making it yourself you can improve it and then enchant it.

But enchanting it will remove the enhancement unless you have that same perk.

Does it? I don't have the arcane blacksmith perk but my daedric sword that I upgraded to legendary and then put a fire effect on still says it is legendary or does it just say that but have the stats of a normal daedric sword?
