I have rage for Rage

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:33 pm

Before I begin my "rage" session the game looks great, and ID software always make good products from a quality stand point. I will most likely play this game - but for how long is the true question. I usually don't buy/play games specifically for the single player campagins. I play the multiplayer with the single player campaign as an after thought and I know there's a lot of people out there that share this same view.

Was someone hitting the bong during the design phase? No deathmatch?

So pretty much all other current companies that are releasing FPS games have deathmatch modes but Rage will not? ID software slowly falls into obscurity over the years and after 30 years leave their caves release a game that looks really really good - but don't include deathmatch?

What you're telling me is you want to be like borderlands but with better graphics and go kart multiplayer matches.

I was reading interviews by different members at ID with discussions on pushing the envelope on developing which involves cutting out deathmatch? Can't you push the envelope and create a fresh/modern/competitive deathmatch experience as well as include everything else you plan to release?

Maybe instead of worrying about releasing versions of the game on iphone, ipad, and my toaster those resources could have been better used to add the multiplayer deathmatch modes. More = better. Does anyone really play games on their mobile devices where your fingers take up half the screen - or do they just play it on their PC/Console?

I understand in the world of business there is the almighty $$ but did it ever occur to the dev's that ALSO adding a deathmatch mode would enhance the game and raise it's own bar from good to great?

If Doom 4 will be using the rage engine, I'll light a candle in hopes that deathmatch is included.

First off More != Better, quality over quantity any day of the week.

tbh when I first heard that RAGE would not include Deathmatch I was bummed, but then I thought to myself 'id Software has the smartest dev team in the whole industry and with every game they make they push the bar. Why in the world would I doubt what they are doing.'

id Created deathmatch a long long time ago and now the market is saturated with terrible deathmatch games. They felt that there was no reason to include deathmatch and they chose they more difficult route of innovation. I have faith that id knows what they are doing. When I look at other devs like DICE or Treyarch I expect deathmatch because that is all they know how to do, but when I look at id I expect innovation whatever that may mean.

EDIT: Also with the newly confirmed http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/05/05/rage-to-ship-with-full-level-editor-id-studio/ someone should have a few deathmatch levels ready in a day or two after launch.

DM is done everywhere now. Like there are so many FPS games coming out this year I have just lost count. I am happy they doing a vehicular game because other wise it would just be like the 100 other games out there and this is RAGE not quake or doom. Quake and doom will have dm ... Wolf will have ET. I am happy they are keeping special Multiplayer styles for each of their franchises.

Why should we choose? I want quantity and quality. With the games coming out recently, and going to be coming out around the time of Rage release - it's gonna have some stiff competition. Maybe ID software is past their prime. Maybe not. We'll have to wait and see. All I know is once Battlefield 3 is out - if you ask people about Rage they will be like Rage what? You can only play campaign and co-op for so long. Then you have mario kart races in the middle. If those multiplayer deathmatch maps come out it might salvage the situation.

Also John Carmack was the mastermind behind ID. He was the innovator. He was making headlines. But his interests turned to Aeronautics. He had this company on the side which he focused on. ID released some game engines and fell into obscurity. They popped back, and now that Carmack has sold ID Software to Bethesda he wants to pump out a good game make it a good sale. Release iphone and toaster apps with a version of the game.

"They felt that there was no reason to include deathmatch and they chose they more difficult route of innovation."

This is a nice way of saying we have limited money, and have a workforce of about 10 people half of which are illegal aliens (small extreme but you get the point) :P

Just because there is no DM doesn't mean that the multi-player won't be fun and whether they add DM or not won't stop people from buying battlefield 3. People will still buy BF3 and they will still quit playing RAGE.

Why would some one buy Rage when they can just say. OH wait RAGE has SP, COOP and MP with infantry combat. BF 3 has SP COOP and MP with infantry combat. HMMM... should i go for something untested or something truly tried and trusted. NO I WILL GO BF3.
Why would some one buy Rage now you ask It has SP COOP and MP with DM with CARS (only other game this year with car combat i can think of is twisted metal and it's PS3 exclusive). Hmm.. seems interesting let me try this concept out else I have BF3 to fall back on.
This is the most crowded year for gaming and what gives id the freedom to do whatever they want is that its a new IP and everyone else is doing everything that they did 10 years back.

Your logic about " If those multiplayer deathmatch maps come out it might salvage the situation." holds no value as people will still bounce back to BF3 and you are forgetting this generations juggernaut of DM's, Call of Duty is still to come not to mention Gears 3 is also on it's way and lets also not forget there is a tribes games on its way. There is only so much battlefield-esque and COD-esque games people can play. As you can clearly see Crysis 2 did the same copied COD up the A** and got screwed in equal amounts. Now let me see I want to play my awesome games that I just listed but then there is also RAGE a new IP. Do I really wan't to waste time leveling up in DM on that when I can spend my precious time leveling up in the above mentioned games which will guaranteed have full servers for at least 6 months post release.

In fact Rage will be forgotten in like a month of their release if the MP is DM like. Also use your head Bethesda has their MP game for this year it's called BRINK. They don't need more competition for that game from their own internal studio.

Plus not to mention all those modders will make a GTA like MP dm which will be pretty cool IMO.

Sorry for the wall of text but your logic is so flawed I had to vomit all of this out.

If people like you stay in the gaming community, nothing is going to happen for the FPS genre. It will just drag on with hundreds of incredibly similar games that all include DM and the traditional game modes that have worked in the past. It will get boring. Or more boring i should say. Devs need to start mixing it up and creating new types of games, instead of just waging wars against the other FPS competition. I really like the look of Rage, but im not a really devoted fan of it just yet, im dissagreeing with you because of the fact that you have no consideration of other gamers beside yourself. Maybe some people don't want a heavily MP centred game. Maybe they dont have Live or PSN or Steam. Maybe they've already decided which game to buy this year for a multiplayer experience, such as BF3 or BRINK (which i doubt you approve of either considering it lacks a DM mode as well).

im happy that rage will be the unique game this gen, simply because of that
i own bfbc 1 and 2 and not even touch sp
have many friends that own all cods and other and they not even try s too
this is stupid...now sp is just addition to mp, but all this modern type of games all the same
the same weapons, models and other stuff
this is wrong!!!! this is why i like fps games before cod4
every dev try to give us something unique and special
remember unreal, quake, tribes, planet siege - they all awesome

Bethesda wanted to make a single-player experience, they also wanted rage to be unique that's why they have unique multiplayer, the iphone game wasn't a waste of resources or even a serious game, it was advertisemant, i got interested in rage by the iphone game.
As i said this is a single-player focused game and if you don't like single-player you are obviously not the target market for this game, if i like puzzle games i can't be mad if they don't insert puzzle in call of duty i just have to find another game to play like portal.
