You will probably have to start a new character, as it seems you didn't save before the battle for Hoover Dam

You will have to start a new game, as there is no way of returning once you've progressed to that point in the game, you can have several saves at once if you're worried about losing your existing character,

Thanks for the so quick answer. In fallout 3, the dlcs give you the opportunity of continue after finishing the game . I see it is not the same in NewVegas

Fallout 3 was only that way if you had Broken Steel. Obsidian said from the beginning that no such DLC will be made for New Vegas. They even put in a huge pop-up that told you there was no turning back. It really couldn't have been made any clearer.

Yes, you'll have to start a new character. But this isn't a bad thing, since a lot of the content in NV is designed in such a way that one character *can't* see all of it, due to many quests and options being mutually exclusive.

It really couldn't have been made any clearer.

While I definitely agree, some days I wonder if it would've been so bad to have the game autosave in a new slot when you clicked Moore/Yesman/House/Caesar to start the final quest.

Granted people would still whine though.

Inverse whine quotient. They'd still whine some, but we'd whine less.

PS. To OP: I know of a way to rebuild your current character (at least the levels, stats and perks, not gear) very quickly so you can remake your character to take to the dlc. If you wanna know how, I'll post it in spoilers or PM you the details. My son did the same thing (no save to play from) so I told him how to remake his character. Some of the things we do for our kids...............

I must be the only person in the world who makes alternate saves every time I have some major decision to make, so I can go back later and try doing things differently without affecting my main save.

I do this as well, and exactly because if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to harp on the whiners for not doing it.

OP, are you playing on PC?

If you are, then you can either install a mod that allows you to keep playing after the ending, or start a new playthrough and use console commands to quickly build up your character (although you really should just do another playthrough, you've most likely missed half of the game with just one)

I have used about 800 of my 1000 saved positions, so I would take a guess and say you are not. :)
