Soundtrack

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:06 pm

So I did a quick search and wasn't able to pull up anything, but I apologize if this has been asked before. Is there any word on whether the PS3 will have the custom soundtrack option? I ask only because I'm trying to figure out which platform to pre-order it for (being PS3 or 360), and I don't want to get stuck in the Mohave Desert after a number of playthroughs and want to throttle the radio for driving me slowly insane with the same music.

The PS3 does and the 360 does. The 360 one is difficult to understand and the PS3 one has only been done in certain games. But its there.

Why the worry for such things. There'll no doubt be a volumesetting for music. Set it all the way down and play what ever you want from your CD/MP3 player.

Well, the difference, as I understand it, is that the 360 has the ability to do the custom tracks system side, where as the PS3, due to Microsoft's patent on custom music, can only have the custom music if the developers activate the option. Basically they can't have it for every game before Microsoft is the only one with the rights to do it. And I don't mean like a custom station type situation where it plays your music over the radio, since I'm pretty sure that's impossible on consoles. Mainly just to play music in the game, replacing the game music/radio.

Edit: And its not really a worry, it's more of just a factor in the decision.

it really isn't the same. It makes a hell of a difference when you have the sound actually coming from the same speakers that the dialogue and effects are.
