[Relz/WIP] Hitman

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:41 am

Whats up guys. I noticed everyone loved the Bounty Hunter mod for New Vegas ( #1 downloaded on the Nexus ) but figured that was a good guy thing. So I started thinking about ways to make a decent Hitman mod, and have the fun never stop. :)

The better part of the scripting involves randoms, so you never have the same experience twice.

From the readme:

The next release is going to focus very strongly on creating unique Target's. Skill specific ways to kill targets - such as Speech, Medicine, Sneak - and target's that will be varied in aggressiveness/skill, bravado, factions and hints/trends to tip experienced hitmen as to how aggressive/skilled the enemies will be.
Please keep shelling out ideas!
For the sake of easy access & debugging, I've placed an NPC in the Goodsprings Gas Station. He'll give you your Targets.

As the readme says, that's soon to change. My idea is to add a terminal, and maybe even a little bunker, that'll dispense targets. As you can probably tell, I'm short on creative ideas for this, so please reply with some ideas for this. :P

If it's not apparent, this is a very ambitious mod. I hope you guys find it entertaining, and I'll pretend like you're just dying for my next update. :whistling:

Lastly, how does Mojave Hitman sound? I think it has a good ring to it.

Agreed with the name and the whole idea of the mod, also I think the possibly in future versions there should be a lot more then 10 targets, 10 should probably be the minimum IMO.

Also like the sound of a terminal to start of with kind of like who don't know who your working for and maybe later down the line when proven that you can be relied upon your then deemed worthy of meeting the man dishing out all the orders.

How about targets with more subterfuge and infiltration involved. Most of the Bounty Hunter targets were mostly fiends or gang members where you pretty much just had to plow through a few fellow fiends to get to; you'd think that hunting down "good" people would be a bit different, especially if you don't want entire towns, or organizations hating you.

Some of them could be simple like: "go to this casino, collect the package I left you there, silently kill this target." And the package would be like a special sniper rifle with only one bullet of it's type

Others could involve poisoning, convincing your targets to kill each other, *insert situation from Hitman games here*, framing them for a crime with the penalty of death, make friends with them and then once your close steal all their ammo before they go off to some big fight, etc.

Might go with that then. ;)

The 10 targets are just for different looks, but they're all basically the same. As I say below, there's going to be more depth put into the characters.

I'll definitely be looking into doing something like this, because currently it seems more like a "go here, kill that, rinse, repeat". More depth is definitely something this needs, and I'll try my best to implement some of the situations you mentioned. :)

Expect a release very soon ( within the next three days ). Currently including 39 ( 45 total ) new possible locations for the Targets - forcing the player to investigate the town to find the target - and a reward system. Includes rewards of weapons, bottlecaps, ammo, clothing and perks.

I'm highly seconding the idea of interesting ways to take out your targets. One thing that made the Hitman games great to begin with was that you could approach a situation from multiple angles, and Fallout has plenty of that. Utilize disguises too! I haven't gotten to a mission in the game yet that forced me to disguise myself and infiltrate some place and this seems like the perfect opportunity to use that.

First thing I thought of was the "Dead Drops" from the Dark Brotherhood questline in Oblivion. Instead of a terminal perhaps notes scattered around with info on the next target. In the note is also the location of the next note and payment. I notice there are quite a number of 'hollowed-out rocks' in the game. Which is where the quest began in Oblivion.
I thought that was quite fun in Oblivion, even though it was a little short.

But, the mod sounds like fun so far, will certainly check it out :)

First thing I thought of was the "Dead Drops" from the Dark Brotherhood questline in Oblivion.

That's one of the first things I thought of too :P The only problem being, this is supposed to be more of a 'job' and is highly reliant on randomness. Though it's possible, it'd just be extremely rare to discover a Drop, or would take an aggravating amount of searching. If you have any ideas to work around this though, I'd be more than willing to add this!

Though I can't promise the story and uniqueness of a Hitman game assassination, I'm going to try my best to deliver something close. :D

Since I added so many new locations, I'd like to inform you all that I'm not positive each spawn point will work. If you discover that your target is truly nowhere to be found, please post or send me a message.

*posted on Tesnexus as well*

Some things to add:
The obvious one being "polish": failure messages for the skill/item check things, random names for targets, less awkward reward receiving/body disappearing, explanatory/flavor dialogue for the hit giver, etc.

What about randomized contract types? you ever play http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25689? I hosted it for Pluke when he left the modding scene, and even in the current state I consider your mod to be a bit superior to it, but anyway... One nice thing DB: Cont. did to liven up the infinite assassinations was have different types of contracts and requests. ranging from normal assassinations to poisonings and keeping the law/media off your back.
It could maybe be as simple as having different skill/item checks for different people. Like one person might be very depressed/stressed because they've been on the run for so long so you use speech+straight razor to convince them to end it all, Or maybe there's one who has a heart condition you use speech+medicine+ to convince them to try it out "what's the worst that could happen?"... Could also do framing targets for crimes, or being a heretic(if they're in a legion camp), maybe convincing the target to hold a bomb disguised as something else and then radioing in your client to press the detonator (you know... because they wanted to feel like they themselves killed the person.... on that subject I guess there could also be situations where Boone's first quest could be replicated.

I know you said in the description that you're not really making it like a quest mod, but what about some like "unique" hits before every major "reward jump". You know something like:
"The leader of the vipers recently stole a shipment of guns meant for NCR and is now planing an attack on the Fiends; A client of ours has expressed interest in seeing this plan fail."
And they'd play out like normal quests... You can warn the fiends, give them a big batch of psycho and Med-X then watch them mow sown the Vipers, you could intercept the gang caravan that is delivering the supplies to the Viper base, convince the guard that you're delivering the supplies in order to get close to the leader and kill him, you could find their plans, and then use them to set up traps exactly where you know they're going to attack from, etc. and then at the end of it you get the big reward jump for completing such an important hit.
