Szoreny: Why buy a loose sound card when todays modern motherboards have built-in sound cards. They are just as good and you free up space in your computer if you want to for example take advantage of CrossFire or SLI.
Im running a ASUS Crosshair IV Formula with a built-in Creative X-FI MB sound card with SPDIF output and support on up to 7.1 speakers. I don't know what a sound card costs but I'm sure you save a coin or two if you use it...
Hey I just mistrust onboard audio from the old days when it universally svcked.
The old socket 939 DFI Lanparty UT SLI-DR 'Expert' motherboard I'm using did indeed come with a 'Karajan Audio Module', it's basically a tiny removable pcb that completes and enables the onboard Realtec when you plug it in....I never installed it though.
Even with the Audigy and my wireless card taking up two PCI slots my PCI express's have plenty of room for two large video cards in SLI...though I'll never go SLI on this antique setup.
But it makes sense some of the new motherboards might have classier onboard equipment. I'll keep that in mind when I'm in the mood to upgrade the CPU, RAM and Motherboard.
As for New Vegas I did get the Audigy's drivers updated, while preserving the applications and functionality of the card. Creative's legacy support seems better than I remember, but it would still be a great help if they'd consolidate some of their updates.
The update combined with hardware acceleration lowered to standard has resulted in better stability....so far.
