Unplayable for a host of reasons

My Windows 7\64-bit installation has played every game I've thrown at it, including Fallout 3, without a problem of note but FNV has forced me to stop playing until a serious set of patches is released.

What's going wrong? Where do I start?

LIke many people the stuttering is driving me mad. I'm not changing my graphics settings - why should I?

I've only reached Nipton and have so far suffered from characters floating in rooms, characters magically appearing in buildings after the umpteenth revisit, shooting characters at pointblank range only to see my bullets disappear into the ether, dogs freezing mid-bite after being shot, not being able to sleep because 'enemies are near' even though there's nothing to be seen or heard for miles around and many others that I can't be bothered to bore you all with.

Also, for some reason my character walks at a snails pace and runs at walking pace which is making progress unbearable. Have I mistakingly downloaded and installed the 'wheelchair' option pack? (Yes - I've tried Caps Lock).

This game is nowhere near ready for release and unless something positive happens on the patch front will be relegated to the dustbin but I'll make damn sure I get a refund first.
