A rant!

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:59 am

I'm just annoyed about the "stiff" animations of the last game, I liked them oddly lol I think they would look better than a failed attempt at fluid animations which in my mind will look ridiculous. I've heard that the last stated description is basically what the movements will be which might hurt some of the immersion for me as well as some other things. Does anyone have any solid info/opinions?

There have been several videos that show the 3rd person animations, just look around. I'm too lazy to look myself :P

I think they are greatly improved. Especially the running animation for the pistols, which is the only one that really annoyed me in FO3.

I thought Fallout 3's animations were pretty good, which means New Vegas will look just as good if not better.

I think i'm one of the few people who had no problems with the animation.

Maybe it's cuz ive been playing games since the Nintendo first came out and everything in between but my whole life but I really appreciate where we are with our graphical achievements. I love good graphics but not at the sacrifice of gameplay and storytelling.

Fallout 3 was fun as hell and New Vegas look's like it's giving a good dose of complexity and depth we missed in FO3. That's all I could ask for.

Meh...I can think of many, many things I want to see improved before the animations. Like Nightbeat graphics are just not the most important aspect of a game to me. Then again, I've been gaming since Atari 2600 and TRS-80 (ask your parents), so I'm used to using my imagination. :P

The animations weren't really that bad.

Indeed. I have yet to see the "gliding around while running" thing that a lot of people complain about.

The animations look a lot better this time around. I never found any problems with the Fallout 3 animations...well when they were on level ground at least...

This. While they are far from perfect, I think they were good for the "outdated" engine they were using.

Most of the animations were fine, except for the talking animations. The talking animations were horrible, it was like talking to robots. The entire face besides the mouth was paralyzed, absolutely horrendous, especially when people say things like "I'm so proud of you."

I don't let it bug me too much. My standards for games aren't amazingly high, but I do complain about alot of them. I never complained about F3. It shined right through any of it's issues to me. Just saying.

My worries come from recent posts about Qore footage in which running animations look like "A fat guy running down a hill". I certainly hope they didn't over focus the animations which were already ok and make it look cheesy. Either way I will buy and love the game though.

Mostly they didn't bother me at all except when visual animations/glitches caused bugs. Such as floating deathclaws that fall back down 5 minutes later...

The Graphics were fine IMO, and the animations were good enough. I never had issue with either.

the graphics weren't bad but the animations were really stiff but obsidian said they're been working on them. as to wether i'd like to see then improve of course but gameplay and story matter a hell of a lot more. i imagine the next TES and fallout games will use a new version of gamebryo and look a lot more up to date graphically.

Sometimes FO3 the animations were fine, other times no so much.

I posted a similar topic whining about the graphics as well, and while I think there's still room for improvement, I think it has been sufficently improved.

What won me over was finally watching some hi-res game play footage. it can be hard to see the improvements when your watching a compressed web video.

Yeah, but I don't have it anymore. I still have my old Commodore 64, though. Never played Ra?ka-Tū.

Sorry, I was referring to what the forum user called Nightbeat was saying. :)

I think a lot of the animations were pretty poor and I think we'll see that in New Vegas as well (though with improvements as we've already seen). But, it's mostly a non-issue with me, can't really be bothered to care.
The only thing I wish they'd tone down are the ridiculous VATS deaths (like Victor the robot flying around like crazy in that one gameplay vid from a short while back). But yeah... I don't care that much.
