[IDEA] Sharpening Table

Hi,

I don't know if there's a mod already does that. But yesterday when I was playing FNV, an idea came to my mind. You know, there are some sharpening tables that Legion uses for sharpening their blades, knives, machetes etc. But unfortunately these things are only static objetcs, non-usable. A mod could be done for making them usable. There are already vanilla animations for using sharpening table.

Technically, when you use an melee weapon like machete for example on the sharpening table. The mod takes your unsharpened normal melee weapon and in exchange it gives you a sharpened one. (Ex. Machete [Sharpened])
The efficiency for sharpening depends on your repair/melee weapons skill. And in time for instance after 125 uses the weapon gets unsharpened again.
There is a mod called "CHEMS" maybe you've already heard of it. That mod makes chemistry tables usable via making them work like workbench.
But I think instead of making sharpening tables work like workbenches, it could be done in real-time.
When you equip a valid melee weapon and activate the sharpening table in 3rd person, the vanilla animation plays. And after few seconds, if you have enough repair/melee weapons skill your currently equipped melee weapon gets sharpened.
Using sharpening tables also could be done via adding a new perk called "Blacksmith". That perk requires 50 repair/50 melee weapons skill for instance.

I was going to try create this mod. But unfortunately, I have a little modding experience. :)

So, what do you think?

i was actually thinking of sharpening melee weapons but using whetstones (always good to have more uses for items) instead of the sharpening table. maybe whetstones could be the portable version but giving less bonus for fewer attacks. and the bonus attack could depend on repair skill and not a static 50 req for non variable bonuses.

Or give a higher condition on the weapon. Idea being that your taking care of your weapons, so they won't break mid battle next time. Idea being that sharpening them repairs them beyond 100% (Think oblivion)

Actually I think sharpening doesn't have anything to do with condition. It just gives the weapon more edge. And after using the sharpened weapon multiple times, the weapon gets unsharpened again. But If we think about Condition/Damage, yes theoretically it may boost the condition.

@Norbingel

You reminded me The Witcher. I don't know but if you played The Witcher there were some items similar to whetstones. And when you use it on a sword it was giving +%20 Damage/+%10 Damage. It's a nice idea.

Thats pretty much the idea. In oblivion repairing a weapon past 100% gave it a slight boost in damage. If I recall it right. After its condition degrades, the damage went down as well.
