F:NV's communities do engage in farming out of necessity, but they do not typically get good yields because farming in the Mojave Desert can present a lot of problems.
I guess the real basis of my curiosity was if the people of new vegas have a sustainable consistent food source. From that post it looks like it is difficult and semi-consistent .
With the size of new vegas, which I'm guessing is one of the larger settlements in existence, has alot of potential for growth.
Since new vegas has electricity, water (is the water from the dam Irradiated?) and a way to produce food semi-consistently. It seems like the potential growth, as in how many people can populate an area and still be able to be sustained by those regional resources,is pretty huge.
This almost seems the tipping point where society could really start rebuilding itself. Intense factional/regional competition for resources would slow rebuild, we saw one in FO:3 and the hoover damn is likely to play some part in NV. This society is farther along than the DC area in FO3. It seems like real permanent infrastructure might take be implemented very soon. Maybe 100 more years with sustainable resources?
Are there other settlements in Fallout lore that are this size? San Francisco is pretty large right?
What happens to the Fallout universe when people start moving back to urban centers because of sustainable resources like food, water, electricity?
