Dear Bethesda Softworks,

I bought Fallout New Vegas on Steam about a week ago and I am totally STOKED to play it. I was wondering, if it would be possible for people who bought Fallout New Vegas from Steam to download the game ahead of time, not play, so when the game is released October 19th we can jump right into game play. With my internet connection (and possibly others), the game would take the greater part of the day to download from Steam, and I was really hoping that players could download it ahead of time to avoid such hassles. idk why anyone would bother to buy the game on steam when the regular retail version is already going to use steam.

Yeah, I've heard that you can start downloading the game a day or two before it's actual release.

Maybe some people just don't want the retail version?

OP, I'm not sure if you are going to be able to pre-load the game. IIRC, Mafia II didn't have the pre-load feature, and the retail version used Steam.

Most likely you will a week before release like R.U.S.E. and Civ V.

Well I don't know why anyone would want to buy retail since they have to use steam anyway... :whistling: --> (This part was kind of a JOKE... so, yeah....)

To the OP, I'm thinking maybe this is something you could ask Steam. They might say if available, they'll allow a pre-load. Who knows.

It will, like every other Steam release, be available for pre-load a week or two before release. Don't sweat it.




I bought it over Steam because it would have cost me more in fuel than it would for the game because the nearest PC game retailer that offered pre-orders was 50 miles away. At 14MPG average I would spend about 55-60 bucks on gasoline driving down there to pre-order it, driving back home, then driving back down there to pick it up on release. Whereas by buying over Steam I spent exactly nothing except what the pre-order itself cost.

Because you get the box and the game manual with the cool art on it and stuff? I buy games on steam for the convenience of having it on steam when the retail version doesn't use steam.
When the retail version of a game already uses steam why would you buy it on steam and get less for your money?

Yes, you can download it about 2-6 days before release. That's how it always works.

I pre-ordered mine for about 32 EURO (inc. VAT and S&H), while the STEAM version costs 50 EURO. Plus I get it on a disc with manual, and after I've activated it on STEAM I can download it it as many times as I like.

You decide which is best.

Yeah man I totally agree with you, (although the nearest gaming store for me isn't as far as you mentioned it was from your house) not only would you waste money on gas driving down to the store, it is tax free on Steam and line free.

Did you even read my post? Even with tax and shipping&packaging it costs me almost 20 EURO less than buying it off STEAM. And I get it on disc, in a nice box with a manual.

STEAM has these really great sales, unfortunately newly released games almost always costs exactly the MSRP whereas other stores lower it significantly.

Are you really getting less though? a printed manual (these days only if you're really lucky) which you might glance at once and a box for a CD you wont need.
As opposed to not having the cost/hassle of having to go and buy/ship the game, worrying about store stock levels (or having to make 2 trips if you're pre ordering)

Another possibility - Because downloading that big a file isn't something some people want to do (either because their broadband isn't fast enough to make a multi-gig file reasonable to download, or because their ISP has download limits and 6+GB would cut into that).

Oblivion and Fallout 3 both came with a nice manual, and having it on disc means I can install it from the DVD instead of having to download 7+ GB first.

The size doesn't really bother me, I can dl 7+GB pretty quick. But if you're saving money retail, by all means that's the way to go.

It depends on if they have preoloading. I know DAO did... I kind of expect NV to as well. Usually, preloads, if they're allowed, can start about a week beforehand.

IMO, the part I underlined is misleading, the collector's edition is still a steam version, just not digi-distributed.
