Graphical Enhancement Mods

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:03 am

Disclaimer: I am, admittedly, new to modding.

It seems like there's a gigantic list of options for modding the visuals of this game. Many have these elaborate pictures which serve as descriptors for what the mod actually does -- sometimes they just confuse me all the more. I'm looking for mods that up the visual fidelity of the game in as straightforward of a way as possible. Here are a few of the mods I've encountered:

- Enhanced Shaders
- Better Normals
- Imaginator
- Cookbook thingey...
- Nevada Skies (URLW and not stuff... this is possibly the most confusing)

I found all of it terribly confusing. I'm looking for some straightforward input on what mods will easily increase the graphical fidelity of the game and what versions of them to use. I'm basically looking for someone to help me make sense of all of the graphical mods out there so I have a direction to go in.

Nevada Skies and Fellout are mods that changes the weather and overall color.
Nevada Skies adds a bit in terms of weather (rain, sandstorms and snow near Jacobstown), but both remove the persistent orange tint that is so prominent in vanilla and make nights darker.
URLW plays around with lighting and colors and, if I'm right, to some extent the weather
Enhanced Shaders adds some new effects to the game you might have seen in other games, like depth of view.
Better normals will improve the normal mapping on most things in the game world.

Cookbook, I think, is a way to show how these things work together and what settings will get the result pictured in its screenshots.

Personally I have just used Fellout up until now, but I've downloaded Enhanced Shaders and thinking about adding URLW.
Do note that these will take more from your computer in terms of performance.

Try to find comparison shots, to show you the difference between vanilla and the mod. Most have a read-me that includes compatibility and incompatibility with other mods.

Does anyone know a link to/for a mod that removes the color filters in areas like the Hoover Dam/Cove? I could swear I saw one once a long time ago but can't find it. That's all I want...removal (or simulation of removal) of those filters in those areas. Or is it easy via Geck?

Fellout? Almost every weather mod does that to be honest, but Fellout seems to be the closest to vanilla settings as far as I know. It does make nights incredibly dark, though.

I'm incredibly picky about my mods/what they do, I know....just want the filter removal because those washed out colors give me headaches in videos w/compression.

Although actual occasional rain would be cool too, but I don't expect that in the desert so much, haha. I'll check for Fellout, thanks. Doesn't sound like the one I was thinking of but it might work anyway. Can turn it on and off I guess.

I use all of those mods minus the cookbook. Take a look at a few of the screenshots I took to show them off. Keep in mind I use other mods from the Illuminator series.

Enhanced shaders is an ENBSeries mod. It's very intensive on your hardware. If you use the lite version plus the DYNAVISION mod it's nearly the same as the high quality shaders, but doesn't touch the UHQ (Ultra high quality) which I'm using in these screenshots, much to my GPU's dismay.

EDIT: I don't use Fellout. I use Nevada Skies + URWL + Custom Lighting + Enhanced Shaders + Detailed Normals + ELECTRO-CITY series.
