Playing around the Save Bug : Fallout: New Vegas

I got hit by the save bug about 28 hours in, I have since started another playthrough which is up 80 hours, avoiding any vaults and I have had no save bug, if I enter a vault and subsequently save will all my pre-vault saves be broken too?.

The only quest bug I have encountered so far was during the Wheel of Fortune Quest.

UPDATE:

I managed to complete the whole game following some of the advice below, basically I waited to go into the vaults until I had completed every other possible mission without comitting to one of the game end scenarios (NCR, Legion, Mr. House or Yes Man), I'd stress that this worked for me and is not necessarily a constant for everyone.

I have been avoiding vaults too. I did not have any problems on the Strip though.

i lost 3 playthroughs, amounting to about 120 hours lost..

i am just going to wait to play until the patch comes out...whenever that is..

sad i check this forum EVERY DAY just to see if the patch is out..

Yeah, I'm interested in this part as well.

I have like 14 different saves.

What happens if I enter any place or do any other action which corrupts one of my saves? Does it corrupt all other saves as well or do they remain unaffacted?

Does the following work around work?

"Temporary work around for the DLC error"

I did this for my fellow fallout fans,
because of the lack of feedback about the "forthcoming" patches, i have done 25 hours of in game testing to replicate this save game bug we are all having under all different conditions.
The DLC savegame error is not caused by any quest in particular, and its not actual savegame corruption, I have successfully replicated the DLC error in over a dozen different instances, at different points of the game.
The bug is caused by certain combinations of actions, events, and quests, not specifically by come fly with me. The strip and the main storyline need to be put off for quite some time in order to avoid the DLC error, i couldnt start the strip until well after the 15 hour mark.
For those of us who dont want to wait to play the game that we paid our hard earned money for, The ways to work around this game-breaking bug are as follows
-save constantly (I have tried to save around every 15 mins or so)
-try reloading your saves after completing certain events to make sure the bug has not manifested
-if the bug does take out one of your saves, go to the most recent working one, and switch quests to a different task. Once youve completed the new task, try moving back to the one that gave you the error before and it should work now.
-as you build up gameplay hours, the DLC error will become less and less frequent, the combinations that cause it most commonly seem to involve the end missions of questlines
- if you are doing faction missions, space them out so you arent working all the way through one faction in a sitting.

I know that it is ridiculous that these are the only ways to avoid these bugs, but i can promise you that if you really want to play, these methods WORK. I have tested it over the past 4-5 days pretty constantly, so that i could try to give you all some sort of reliable way to play until we get this patch we have been waiting for.

This tactic has worked for me as well. I also only play for about three hours at a time before saving, and exiting out of the game (wait 10 min. or so then start the game again). I also use the left bumper, right bumper, x, holding them all down while booting the game up every time I start the game. I usually check every save i create by loading immediately after saving and I keep six save files which I rotate. I have yet to run into a corrupt save or any broken quests.

Avoid all the vaults. There seem to be game ending bugs associated with all of them. You can get pretty far into the game just leveling and questing above the surface. I didn't go into a Vault until I was around level 20.

I started encountering the game corrupting bugs when going into the vaults. It put a big fat halt to my progress. I haven't played the game in a month. Yeah, it's fun but the bugs get really bad the further you get into the game.

That seems quite fast to me, seeing what the entry requirements are!

I was playing for at least 35 hours before I entered the strip, which I wanted to put off until I''d explored the world around it a bit.

I've gone in to one particular vault a couple of times, and have not had any game saves corruptions at all *. I have had the companion-who-suddenly-refuses-to-follow-me problem, and the vanishing ED-E glitch (luckily I had saved just before it happened), but otherwise no problems apart from the odd floating rock or similar (oh, and the 'dogs' glitch).

I don't know if saving to a 360 memory card rather than the hard drive would help?

(* famous last words, it will probably screw up when I play it again later!)
