Anyone find a workaround for the DLC save issue?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:58 am

NVM to anyone who reads this, I found a workaround, you can read the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1146560-anyone-find-a-workaround-for-the-dlc-save-issue/#entry16757660 post in this topic to see it but I have blanked out part of it to not go against this site's terms of use
This workaround only works for a specific "group" of 360 gamers or PC gamers

--------------------------------

I have tried clearing the cache and deleting the entire FoNV folder on my HDD (I kept backups on my USB)

Sometimes I can save and it will work (5% of the time), but most of the time whenever I save/autosave and I try to load it, it gives that damn "DLC is missing" error and then the "storage device is removed" error which isn't true (and this is from both my USB and HDD)

I will not do another character (this is my 2nd, I never hit this on my first)

My save is at 61 hours too

So has anyone found out the cause or a workaround for this?

There isn't a workaround and the only people who will ever know the cause work for Obsidian or Bethesda, and they're not gonna tell us. They're just gonna release an update to fix it.

I actually found a workaround but because of the Terms of Use of this site I can't discuss how

but PC people can do the workaround by using the coc command and going to a different location

---------------------------------------------------------
I'll sort of post what I did but Im going to censor the parts that "violate the terms of use of the forum"

I didn't leave the maintenance area, then I saved onto the USB

[BLANK]

Then on the PC I used the coc command and went to the cell HiddenValley02 and left the bunker and saved and reloaded and it still works

I found a work around and have now completed the game, I did not enter any of the vaults until I had completed all possible quests (ones not including vaults!) I had not commited to one of the end game storylines (NCR, Legion, Mr.House or Yes Man).

I also completed the first part of the Bleed me Dry quest for Red Lucy by collecting the Mantis Eggs in the wild, which was very annoying as they are a rare drop. I have at this time only completed a Yes Man playthrough but intend to complete the others in the following days.

I would stress that this workaround worked for me and would in no way suggest, due to the inconsistency of the bugs across the the system, that such a workaround be universal. I would suggest trying this with fingers crossed at best as I was level 30, 98 hours in and most quests completed at this stage and that would be a horrific investment of time to lose.

Still, it did ruin the roleplay aspect of a Fallout game having to tailor my quest choices in such a fashion and the whole debacle is still something someone should be very embarrased about.

On 360, I just cleared my cache (to undo the initial game patch) and, though I did create one corrupt save during Come Fly With Me, I was able to get through it saving very frequently. Since then, I've been playing for many hours without issue.

I had been unable to proceed past Come Fly With Me before clearing the cache. So, luckily for me, this was a very simple workaround and so far has allowed me to continue enjoying the game.

none of these are workarounds, they are people who randomly didn't encounter the glitch so they believe that what they did in their game is a workaround

Not in my case

for me it is a for sure 100% occurrence that if I leave the Maintenance area of Vault 3 to go to the Recreation Area (which is the entrance) then any save after that would be corrupted. I have tested that at least 20 times and everything stems from that (for me anyways)

but my workaround just avoids that specific area and I just did "something" then used the coc command on the PC and just went from the Maintenance Area directly to Hidden Valley Bunker and all my saves are still fine and I even finished the BoS quests

I agree most of these are not workarounds. They are just luck. Consider this i just got the dlc glitch first our in the game. Never did the reported quests or go to a vault. These things may increase the chance of dlc glitch but they are not the soul cause. Lableing the glitch with the vault or quest name is ignorance. The only true workarounf being censored is bullS on the part of this website.

No offense, but it appears that the corrupted save problem came with the update that was released shortly after the game came out. By removing this update by clearing the cache, and not reloading it every time I start the game, things appear OK. Who knows what other bugs are around, but before I cleared the cache I was dead in the water -- afterwards, I can play. YMMV. If you haven't tried it already, it's worth a try IMO.

Im not sure, but I did get tha issue once after clearing my cache because it deleted the update that I had DL. After I DL the patch again, it worked for me. Im not sure if that will help but make sure that you have re-downloaded the patch after clearing your cache. hope that helps, although you may have a completely different problem.

I found my workaround by just changing my save to PC then using the coc command (which teleports you to a different area

then just saved and tested by reloading (still on the pc at that time) then game didn't crash so then I put my save back on the 360 and now I can save reload as much as I want with no problem

but I think it varies on the issue, so for the Vault 3 corruption bug would have this fix, but it might not be the same with others.

I did try clearing my cache and then getting the update again (I even deleted the entire FoNV folder on my 360 hdd) but it didn't work (this was before I put my save on the PC)

One guy says the first update is the problem and another guy says it isn't, don't waste your time. Just wait for the second update. It's been so long, it HAS TO be released this week or next.
