Help with .ini

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:31 pm

I've seen some posts about people having trouble with which ini file to edit for NV. If there is anyone with more knowledge about this please post to help us all out. My first thought was just the ini in documents/my games/ fallout, but some are have trouble saving changes to those files.

Go to your FalloutNV ini file. It's located in Documents/My Games/FalloutNV. Right Click on the ini file and a popup will appear. Left click on 'properties' and another popup will appear. At the bottom of the popup under the General tab make sure the 'Read Only' is not ticked. This will allow you to save your ini file.

It's read only. Use properties and change it from read only to write if you want to edit I believe.

I wasn't able to get changes to either of those files to save permanently. I was trying stuff because my game crashes after the opening cinematic, and whenever I tried to run the game again and it crashed again I would go back and both files would be back to the original values. The only way I was able to get changes to stick was to edit the Fallout_default.ini file in the main game directory.

Steam is reverting the ini. See your steam\userdata\[uid]\22380\remote folder. Delete the .ini in there, then make whatever changes you want, and you're good.

Any clue if this folder just isn't showing up anywhere? I'm seeing a few signs of the "22380" id for NV showing up in other Steam folders, but no actual 22380 folder.
