So in Freeside, when I try to enter the strip, the game freezes every single time. It's like the strip doesn't exist anymore and I know it does cause I've been there before. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm getting the same thing. Every time I try to enter the North Entrance to The Strip the screen goes black after the loading screen and the system freezes up. I've tried multiple times over the past 48 hours to no avail. I can't continue the main quest line without going in. ;(

I've been getting the exact same thing too; it started happening to me too since last night. The odd thing was that I was able to enter the Strip several times before through the North Entrance in Freeside; when I was able to go there, I met Mr. House, gambled at one of the casinos there (forgot the name, but it's the one across from the Lucky 38), and the last thing I was able to do before it started glitching out on me was kill some guy that owed the Atomic Wrangler some money.

For me, I noticed that the errors started happening the moment I was able to get Cass as a companion; prior to that, I never had her as a companion and was able to move back and forth to the Strip freely. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game utility data several times to try and fix the error, but I continue to get that same black screen each time. The dumb thing about it too is that I sent all of my companions to the Lucky 38 so there's no way I can travel with a companion at the moment.

I am also getting this black screen freeze and im pretty sure it is because of the Debt Collector mission where you kill McCaffery for the Atomic Wrangler, after you kill him it freezes everytime you try to re-enter the strip (this is on both PS3 AND XBOX) and supposedly the patch (which XBOX got already) doesnt even fix this issue.

I tried that as well and still nothing worked :/



I knew that's what had to have done something with it, cause I had been in there and then killed him, left and went back to nothing :/

You both killed the Atomic Wrangler guy... interesting. Hopefully they'll fix this one soon. This isn't one they can just gloss over.

PROBLEM FIX - hey i just went onto the XBOX forums and got an answer... go to the Crimson Caravan trading post and buy the "OLD Cowboy hat" and put it on and try to get into the strip... it worked for me BUT be sure to buy the OLD COWBOY HAT and not the Desperado one... try it, worked for me

Confirmed to work. That is the oddest fix though.


I also killed McCaffery shortly before the glitch began. Since this disrupts the main storyline an official announcement about it would help a lot of people that do side quests early on.

I didnt even kill him and i still wasnt able to im trying to find the hat is there any other place besides the crimson caravan trading post ?

I'm having the same glitch, but no chance to get the hat
I killed him then went into the casino, now when I try to leave and it goes to load the strip, it freezes on the black screen
so theres no way I can make it out to get the magic hat

Yea i found the hat no luck for me. im installing it over again to c if i get any luck

Yeah I was wondering if there was another way on to the strip but I didn't ever find one.

SO I completed a bunch of stuff now since getting back into the strip, but now I just found that it still glitches if I don't have the hat... that's annoying.
