Multiple glitches...One per save

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:35 pm

I just got hit with three different glitches on three seperate saves. And I'm 28 hours into the game.

First main save AKA Auto Save:

Stuck in the air over a low mound beside a mountain thing where I should be able to walk. Can spin, shoot crouch...everything. Except land. Can't rest. Can't fast travel.

Thought to myself: This is fine, my second save is only 20 minutes behind and I didn't get very far because I was exploring.

Secondary Save:

No right thumbstick turning. Can pick things up. Can go into the Pip-boy and move the map around with right thumbstick so I know it's working, but caught in the glitch.

Thought to myself: Damn, only other save is 9 HOURS BACK. Guess I'll have to use it since I have no other option.

Tertiary save:

Trying to load up, it pops up that I don't have the proper DLC and asks me if I want to continue anyways. Then when I hit yes, it proceeds to tell me that it can't load off my harddrive then throws me back at the main screen loadup.

Thought to myself: aksdfkajsbfkjsdbgfkljabdkagwbdkjflbjk;dsbgfk;awjbf;absdgajk;fdgb;dajkls

Why?

Because I said for Bethesda to fix something?

I'm not expecting anything to happen from anything I say. But it made me feel better for getting it off my chest, that last bit anyways.

Yeah, why?

So you're sympathetic to the situation until the customer lashes out? I don't understand this, they should have fixed major glitches like this BEFORE the release, not after!

Crowly, your problem #2 happened to me as well. Now I have to start a whole new game after spending several hours on my other. How great.

Well first it would be Obsidians job to fix the glitches if I am nto mistaken.Second have you ever plated and other Bethesda game on release? If you only save every nine hours well I can't feel bad for you.

Apparently this is a massive problem that a lot of people are having at the moment. Which is unfair to people like me who put as much time in as I have only to be slapped in the face three times and basically told by the game to restart the game.

Oh well. Guess I'll make another game. Might go as a baddie this time..

Well Miller, Yes I have.

I got Fallout 3 on launch day. I played it with only one game save.

This time, I played with my auto save and a main save to back it up just in case. And I had a third save for "Just in case".

I save every hour on my main save.

My Tertiary save just happened to have been WAY back.

So don't come into a thread all "Hyuk hyuk you're a [censored] because you saved nine hours back"

So their products are SO consistantly crappy that you're actually placing the blame on HIM rather than the fact the game is not up to standards?! That's like saying "Yeah sure your tires fell off your car but you should have been wearing your seat belt cause everyone knows that this company makes cars that tires fall off of."

Congrats! You are the dumbest person I've met today!

Posting this again so people learn how to properly protect themselves and their saves.

#1) Turn off auto-save. This feature is the culprit of a great many corrupted save issues. So seriously, turn off auto-save. If you use auto-save and something happens while the game is saving, something that can corrupt your files, then every manual save AFTER this corrupted A-S will be corrupted as well.

#2) Save in 4-5 hours blocks, what I mean is your save files should look something like this:

Save 1: 12:00 (most current)
Save 2: 11: 30
Save 3: 11:00
Save 4: 10:30
Save 5: 10:00 (save before quest chain that could alter the world and possibly cause save corruption, especially in conjunction with auto-save)

These following 2 saves I keep until they are roughly 8 hours old, then I start using them again.
Save 6: 09:30
Save 7: 09:00

Most of the larger quest chains (I.E. those found in REPCONN) take and average of a couple hours if you explore thoroughly. Saving the way I outlined gives you a couple "safe" saves from before these quest chains, some during and some after.

Saving this way kept me from being the victim of any major game breaking bugs in Oblivion (360), FO3 (360), FO3GOTY (PS3) and so far FONV. While this obviously can't guarantee that you'll not be a victim of corrupted saves it can make things much easier on you than if you have 1 or 2 "main" saves and then rely on auto-save.

Also, if you die then it's not a bad idea to quit then manually load from the title screen. It takes a few more seconds, but it feels safer to do it this way.

Now, I'm not saying that these issues are acceptable, not in the least. They are atrocious and Obsidian/Beth should be ashamed of themselves for allowing the game to release in such a state. I'm just trying to help those that think 1-2 manual saves are enough, because they're not, not even in games with far fewer bugs. In an RPG you should save roughly every half hour and have at least a half a dozen save slots.
