Any modder ever thought of making a rideable horse?

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:34 pm

Fast travel feels odd to me - insta-teleport.

Yet, walking the wasteland gets old ....

Was wondering how hard it would be to implement riding horses (I'm suspecting very hard?)

Just thought I'd plant the seed..... you never know if someone is looking for a project.

Its the same engine, shouldn't be that hard to port them into fallout ?

yes there are horses in oblivion; however, they are not done very well, IMO. sure, they look nice and you can ride them, but their steering is terrible and you cannot attack from horseback.

now that i think about it, the lack of attacking on horseback is solved by the mod Deadly Reflex 6 for oblivion. so maybe some ideas/solutions for doing this in FONV could be found there.

First off, porting them into Fallout is not allowed as it breaches copyright, and that discussion is frowned upon here.

Second, the same engine doesn't mean the same hardcoded game mechanics, such as riding a horse. I'm not sure it would be possible. It would be difficult. Plus, horses don't exist at all in the game, so you getting one may not really fit in. >.>

Not necessarily frowned upon if only talked about one would hope. But nevertheless, someone is already making a horse; http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39399 It won't be posted on the Nexus due to breach of copyright, but it will be posted elsewhere nevertheless.

Invalidfate has shown time and again that some things can be done; the Chainsaw/LMG Lancer-esque dar HUD, and now this horse. I'd suggest tracking the topic I linked if you want to patiently wait the release. :)

You know I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert... you can remember your name
for there ain't no one for to give you no pain

You could add a whole new critter class, wild mustangs, and a nice quest to tame one,
then add some for the legion and ncr patrols, voilĂ , not immersion breaking anymore

Not exactly fallout lore, but who really cares if he may ride a horse.

invalidfate's work looks great so far [except for the horse tail :D], damn this copyright thing

It has been done before and there is videos of it working involving shooting from horseback, but as stated before it is a breach of contract, meaning it wont happen unless someone makes everything from scratch, animations skeletons and the like.

Well, no, because the horses all died.

There was a mod for a rideable Yao Guai and one for a gigantic Molerat for Fallout 3, though. Can't remember what it was called, but still.
