[REQ] Remove Energy Weapons

Hi there,
I was wondering if it would be possible for Energy Weapons to be removed from the game? They seem to cause my game to lag a fair bit, and in extreme cases seem to cause CTD. I also think they take away from the immersion of the game (just a personal opinion, not looking to start a Guns vs. Energy Weapons war here!). I know it was done for Fallout 3 with this mod (see link below), so does anyone know if the same sort of mod would work in NV?

this mod wont work for new vegas, there are many new critters and weapons that wouldnt be affected by it, if it runs at all.

But you could use the GECK to remove all energy weapons from npc inventory lists and replace it with gun spawn yourself.

Is there no way that I could physically remove the weapons from the game though? Otherwise I'll have to sit there messing with the GECK every time I download a new mod which adds NPCs, and I hate to even touch the GECK unless completely necessary.
