More PS3 Questions

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 12:25 am

So I found a guy that is selling his PS3 slim for $175 with a controller, a remote, and the uncharted game. It looks great, and has no problems with it (I checked) and now I have a few MORE questions to ask

To hook it up to the TV what do you need?

To hook it up to a PC monitor what do you need?

What are the prices off these cords/hook ups?

am I getting scammed and will regret buying the PS3 and turn into an enraged maniac that will burn my city to the ground? :turned:

I am awaiting answers... please.

edit- he didn't say how many GB there was. What is the lowest SLIM GB there is?

HDMI cable.

HDMI cable.

What are the prices off these cords/hook ups?

$20+ in a retail store, around $2 plus shipping if you buy online. (not kidding )

ok. is there any special cord besides an HDMI cable I need to hook it up to the Monitor. I know an Xbox 360 does. That is my current set up anyway.

It depends on the monitor. Mine has two HDMI ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack (the 3.5mm connects to my computer for my speakers).

Depends on if your monitors have built in speakers/audio output. My monitor doesn't output audio so for my 360 I have to use HDMI for video and route the audio through a separate cable to my PCs line-in.... I dunno how to do that with the PS3 though.

you can use the standard audio video cords, or a cable converter. both are in major department stores, for most likely the same price as an HDMI cable. Sometimes you can find HDMI cords cheap, I got a cheap brand one that's never let me down for $10 plus tax.

I'm not sure which slim has the lowest GB, but I imagine it's a 120 GB, seeing as those were the most popular. For $175, it's a pretty good deal, as long as everythings in working condition.

edit: ah yes, forgot about the audio. if your using HDMI you'll have to use the standard audio cords as well, just don't plug in the video cord.

if your not playing on an HD TV or monitor then just grab the basic audio/video cords

Slime line?

ps3 slim model, one of the newer ones that uses a smaller die cast so it runs cooler and more efficient. Much less chance for it to get a YLOD

He should include the cable, but there is a cable that outputs for the A/V. For PC monitor you will need an HDMI cable and make sure not to skimp on this either because it will bite you in the end. Payed about $10 and got a very good cable for mine and never had a problem with it. Cords and Hookups will generally run $15 to $20 depending upon who you go to, but DO NOT pay over $30 for cords since that is a rip off.

For $175 that is pretty fair, but make sure you check what kind of HD you are getting. Make sure it's the original factory install and at or above 80gigs. The PS3 is a good console and despite the recent attack on Sony's PSN I would still recommend the PS3 to people as a solid gaming console.

There is no such thing as a "very good" HDMI cable. Trust me and the others that said this. Retail employees are often told to outright lie to you about HDMI cables. They will give you mumbo jumbo about frequencies and "true HD" and such and try to sell you $40+ dollar cables. In reality you shouldn't pay more than $4 for a 6' (about two meters) cable. It either works or it doesn't work with HDMI. Don't let them scam you.

Please note that this does not apply to the general durability of the cable, which might break down if it's of very cheap quality. Although ocal stores should really not sell those anyway. But be careful if you buy online.

If you are buying a PS3 from someone the question is, why is the cables not included? Something smells fishy here. I am sure the yellow/red/white cables come included so why they are not with it, makes no sense.

Still you are saving about $125 so buyer beware. For an extra $125 you get a brand new PS3, and a WARRANTY, so buyer beware.

I got it and it works perfectly. It didn't come with an HDMI cable, so I ordered one that didn't cost me much. The guy was an advlt that had a 2 year old kid so he said his video game days are over. Good dad!

HDMI, AV, or component cables for the TV. HDMI or HDMI to VGA cable for monitor. HDMI costs $20-$100, AV cable should come with it, Component costs $20-$40. HDMI to VGA costs $20-$50. You are not getting scammed, the person selling is most likely tired of waiting for the online service to come back online because he is a impatient cod fan who needs his dose of Black Ops so he is selling and downgrading to Xbox 360. The lowest amount of GB a slim has is 120 GB.

You should never pay $100 for a HDMI cable, ever. It's a digital signal, there is no degradation, and while studies have shown that expensive cables of long length do tend to work more, unless you're going over several feet and swap the cable between devices a lot there is absolutely no reason to ever buy more than the cheapest cable you can find.
