Can anyone tell me where to get some decent non-faction armor early in the game? I'm level 6 and I've been using NCR Trooper armor. I'd like to find something similar or better with a DT of 10 or more. Thanks.

Reinforced leather should be great at such a low level, around level 10 you can grab reinforced combat armor from one of the higher-end vendors.

If your plan is to buy armor rather than find it you will need money, so I'd recommend getting into the strip ASAP so you can earn a small fortune.

At your level I would be more concerned with having good guns.

well, re-inforced leather armor would be grreat at your level.
once you get to 13 or so, be on the look out for the MK 2 reinforced combat armor and helmat.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for the reinforced leather for now. I guess I should make my way to the strip soon. I've been slowly going through side quests with some minor exploration.

There's a suit of Reinforced leather that's pretty darned easy to get at immediately after Primm.

Head south out of the town proper (past the houses, up the hill and past the old playground equipment) rather than leaving by road on the west side of town. Once you're outside the town walls turn to the east and start walking until you see a pass between the mountains that run north-south. Around this point you'll probably be ambushed by Powder Gangers, so be ready. When you head up that path, you'll find a dead prospector body with some reasonable loot on it and eventually be ambushed by some viper gangers hanging outside a prospector's den on your right. Inside is a bad-guy with a suit of reinforced leather.

Meh. Follow the road north from Novac to Vegas. South of East Gate to the Freeside you will encounter an ambushed caravan and you can loot two Combat Armors off them. It's near one of small bridges in the area with destroyed highway arcs, you can't miss it if you follow the road closely. Also two Plasma Rifles there.

What are the best medium and power armor non faction related?

Remnants and Tesla Power Armors are the best I believe.

For medium, I'm pretty sure it's Combat Armor Mk. II.

26 DT, +10 EW, +20 Rad Res. for the armor. 6 DT, -1 Charisma, +5 Rad Res. for the helmet.

The Remnants' Power Armor is actually better (28 DT, +1 Strength, +15 Rad Res.), but the above stats are for the Gannon Tesla Armor. Remnants' may or may not be better.
