Veronica's voice

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:59 pm

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum. I couldn't find any topic similar to my question, so I'll just throw it out there.

At first I recruited Cass. During our travels I noticed, to my mild delight, that she makes random remarks when visiting certain places (Goodsprings: 'like walking on your grave?'), during certain actions or just when roaming the wasteland ('Caravan of two now'). Sooo.... Then I got bored with her and, player that I am, recruited Veronica instead. Only to find out she's completely silent. I mean, I can initiate dialogue just fine and when she wakes from unconsciousness after a fight she usually complains a bit. Even the ever reviled and looped 'should I take that away from you?' is there. The thing is that those lines are all she ever says.

Now I wonder if Cass is really such a "talker" in comparisson to Veronica, or if there's something wrong. I've seen videos of people with Veronica as companion, and in those she seems to chat quite a bit. I like her as a companion, but the complete silence as opposed to Cass' sarcastic mutterings makes me wonder if I'm missing out on something...

Any thoughts?

Maybe they only had Felicia Day hired for one day of studio time due to budget, and had to limit what was recorded to the most important lines of dialog.

Where as Rachel Roswell can record at home, removing studio costs and time constraints.

Maybe Felicia Day's asking price is high because her name is popping up more often since The Guild and Dr. Horrible's sing-a-long blog. And Rachel Roswell per word fee is cheaper, despite being a superior voice actor. Shhhh, don't tell Felicia.

I guess what I'm saying is, I doubt it comes down to writing, coding, design, bugs or glitches. My guess is there is something else at work here.

Lol, it's probably because Felicia Day was to expensive for Obsidian to do "random banter" outside of the "speak to" dialog.

Like Fate? :P

No, but I kind of thought about and went past those option already, but thanks anyway. I've already took a peak at the voicefiles and, as I said, have seen a fair amount of videos starring this particular companion. It seems that Veronica in my game is probably more silent than she should be.

If it's not a scripting issue, though, what then? Sure, I have some mods that affect said NPC (though nothing voice-related), but so it goes for all other companions, and they seem fine.

(and thanks for responding!)

Well the banter is also very location specific. While Veronica hasn't talked in my game very often while out and about. When you take her home to her "family" she greets and comments a few times. What videos where you watching? What locations where they in? I wouldn't mind watching, still have the links?

True, she does greet some people once in a while back home. Once of the videos that I recently watched was on youtube, about the dreaded Sacrificial Chamber beneath Vault 11. The player fiddles a bit before sitting down in the comfy chair of doom, at which point Veronica utters a remark about "people and their guns taking over the Wasteland" or something to that effect.
