Not really an issue but I've got a question about playing on the xbox 360. I've always been a PC player and am used
to having it on all day. The last console I owned was a Mega Drive... Now I recently bought an X360, and last sunday
I played all day and it didn't occur to me that it might be bad for the console to have it turned on for that long? I had it
paused when I took my breaks, but hear I just increased my chances of the red ring of death? Any help/advice would
be great, thanks in advance!

I often play all day. But when I take breaks I always shut the console down to let it cool down.

Not sure if the slim can get red ring of death but older models can so it's best to let them rest quite often.

As far as games that don't seem to get slower and slower as you play (that's you New Vegas) you can play all day long and you'll be fine. I've played A LOT on my console with no issues. I had to have it serviced once about 2 years ago, smooth sailing since then.

make sure it is in a well ventilated area. not in some enclosed 1990's entertainment center. i have my tv/dvr/game consoles on an entertain center like this one:

its fully open. and i have played Fallout3 and Fallout NV for complete days without any issues and/or RROD.

I haven't experienced Fallout 3 or NV slowing down, so I guess I'm fine. The console is also in a very
well ventilated area. In any case, I'll be sure to turn it off every once in a while whenever I have too
much free time on my hands. Thanks again!

Another thing you could do is get a fan unit. I got one for mine and I think it helps keep it from overheating.

Is your 360 one of the newer ones I think called slim? If so its alot less likely to have problems because they shrunk all the chips and it uses alot less power now.

Still you might want a solling fan system for it I know they make things that coool your console.

Hmm,not sure about that buddy,there is no proof that fans extend the console life,i've had my second hand console for two and a bit years (without an extra fan) and had no problems,a friend of mine bought a fan for his year old console and had the ring o death within three months,luck of the draw i guess.

I play for very long periods and also stream and watch movies and t.v. shows to my console. It's on quite a bit. The newer your console the less of a chance there is for redring. The red ring was very common with older consoles.
Keep your console cool and clean, Don't set anything on it while it's on, Install games to lesson the heat caused by the disc drive spinning. That's about all you can do. I have mine sitting on a wire shelf rack. Only the edges of the sides of my console touch any surface. I have no idea if that really helps but I've had it for three years now and all is still good. Just always be prepared I guess. The consoles by themselves are down to 130 dollars now. So I guess as long as your hard drive doesn't break buying just a new console is pretty affordable if your old one does break. Seeing as you just bought yours you don't have much to worry about for awhile.
