GET A MUCH BETTER FALLOUT PLAYTHROUGH!

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:55 pm

Hi Everyone,

there are so many double topics regarding proplems. But i fully understand, i would NOT READ
through 100 posts after i encoutered some glitch or get myself annoyed over the Game......

I was trying to help out, but as I said, it′s too much topics.

-And reading through a Buglist don′t help us Gamers that much....right!! It annoys even more-

So i Deceided to make a little....

SUMMARY OF TIPS : Even as I still BETA TEST this game. ((-;
I need more real Stimpacks......

DISCLAIMER :
Most Important : I do this for U Guys in the first place, i am not here to defend Bethesda or Obsidian!!!!!!!
If You want to know WHY this Bobblehead (ME) is doing this????
Answer :I am on PERMANENT VACATION from NEW VEGAS at the moment.
Mr. House′s B*** *** Platinum Chip screwed up my XBOX .... LOL

TIPS :

:fallout:

First off all, it′s the best to start a FRESH GAME. !!!!!
:flamethrower: ....Insert Flaming HOLODISK.....REBOOT.... :sadvaultboy: Back to VAULT 101
I know there are many like me who invested over 150h or more in one Character but if u want to
be able to play more with a specific character then start over.
You still can keep ur saves and use this CHAR when the NEXT PATCH arrives --- hopefully soon.......

START NEW GAME
Then Turn all AUTOSAVES OFF !!
-ONLY DO MANUAL SAVES
-NEVER QUICKSAVE
-NEVER QUICKLOAD
-DON′T OVERWRITE AN EXISTING SAVE GAME
-WHEN LOAD A GAME RETURN TO MAIN SCREEN
-HOLD LB. RB, X WHEN U BOOT UP THE GAME (this clears the game cache, which get fragmented
after a time, which result in longer loading times and can cause script issues!!!!!)
This freaking Engine is so Scipt sensitive. And that is in the most cases the problem with
the Bugs and Glitches we all have to deal with. As well as Stuttering and Frame issues.
(YOU DON′T HAVE TO DO THIS EVERYTIME YOU BOOT UP THE GAME)

You Don′t have to Save every 5 minutes or so.
You don′t need 100 Save Games ......but you can (hopefully you got an extra HDD just for this ((-; )

Save every 30 minutes, before quests and before fast travel as u wish.
If youre running out of Save games ----DELETE don′t!!!!! OVERWRITE
---I can′t say this enough!!!!--- :brokencomputer:
Because SAVING A NEW GAME only takes seconds. And if You Overwrite
then there is a chance that a specific script get messed up.

AND WHEN U DIE - LOAD UP A MANUAL SAVE FROM THE MAIN SCREEN

NOT everything is related to a Bug : Always read the Mission Briefings properly,
use Your MAP, but most important USE YOUR HEAD....I learn that myself over my years playing FALLOUT.

If u receive a new Quest or get a new marker (quest updated) on your Pip Boy or you finish a quest
-WAIT FOR A MOMENT- don′t rush through doors or fast travel soon after. CAN CAUSE SCRIP ISSUES!!!!! and then..... :banghead:

Dead Money Hint : Get yourself the "Light Step" Perk - The Sierra Madre is Booby-Trapped to the MAX!!!

:wavey: N E W S

UPDATE : Since Fallout 3, i had that feeling that if you have
more than 50 Save Games (Stored on HDD)
something WONKY can happen to the game. (slowdowns, glitches....)
That of course does not happen to everybody, but i am just sayin.....

UPDATE 2 : HOW TO REDUCE FREEZING ISSUES !!! :

--Many Times the Game freezes or starts to stutter for a moment,
if you notice that, stop walking, just stand still for like 3 seconds.....
That gives the game more Time to Load up and Shuffle New Data.
When you keep on walking then u force the game to Load up much
more Data into the Memory as the Cache can handle at that time!!!!
The Result is a BAD FREEZE.....(Hard Lockup----Reboot XBOX----Nice!!!)

:deal:

--DO NOT OVERLOAD your PIP BOY with as many Missions as you can get.
Finish some before accepting more missions.

--Only Do One Quest at a Time. Don't skip back and forth between multiple quests, making a little progress in each; just do it start to finish. Almost forgot about that, thnx TESLA.!
Remember, more Missions, more Confusion, more Chances that something can get Wonky.
We got Fast Travel, you can pick up specific Quest at a later time.
But Most important, if you go back and forth and then something
get′s WONKY You loose 10-30h Playtime and the exitement to play this game at all.

--If you don′t need your Companions, leave them inside the Lucky 38 Lobby.
Sometimes their more Gamebreaking than Helpfull (See E-DE)....Hope this will be fixed at all....
Luckily their still can be used to Store some of Your Crap!!!

--Since the Radio only plays the same 4 songs over n`over n`over n`over...., shut it off.
Bethesda ? please....We paid for the FULL
(MR. VEGA′S Top Nuclear BLAST′s of the 50′s) The OST!!!! by LUCKY 38 Recordings (-;

--Turn the KILL-CAM OFF. (reduces lockups in and out of VATS Mode)

--Try to avoid using VATS in tight spaces (reduces lockups in vats)

--Playing Offline can lower the ammount of Freezing Issues (still testing!!)

--RESTART THE GAME (back to Dashboard) after 4-6h of Playtime. (reduces the loading time again, plus the chance that something Wonky can happen to Your game.)

--Don't always used a scoped weapon, because the game mostly renders what the player can see, relatively close to him/her. For example; if you look down a sniper rifle scope, it will take a few seconds for people, objects and buildings to render. Sticking with the "iron sights" made the game run slightly better for him. THANKS @TeslaEffect.

--NEW VEGAS is not the Reason for an Unreadable Disk....
I heard about that and let′s say that`s not very Realistic.(Most likely the Disk Drive begins to fail)
Also most of the Times, whatever Game we play when the XBOX Dies for whatever reason....
We Blame it on that particular Game..????...Remeber..???...Check.!

--If You Start a Brand NEW GAME then better Backup your old SAVEGAMES
and Delete them from the HDD.
Don′t Store Different Character-Saves (PLAYTHROUGHS) on the same HDD at the same Time.
(I know this sounds..???....SIGH!!!....DO I REALLY HAVE TO SAY NEW VEGAS is STRANGE!!

:fallout: :rofl:

That′s my most recent tips for the moment..... i will update this for U, if nessesary....

I got myself mostly flawless playthroughs.
BUT NEW VEGAS IS BUGGY AS FALLOUT ALWAYS WAS AND STILL NEEDS MORE PATCHES.
Thanks that i still got my 2 BUG FREE All-Timer Games : Donkey Kong & Mr. DO
(Original Coin Video arcade machines ((-; still a Blast )

I hope this really helps u a bit cause i feel sad for everybody who spent mostly 100 bucks in a
GREAT GAME that is now collecting DUST on your shelves.
So Grab up the game again and let′s go. It′s worth it.
It annoy′s u for some reason....it calls u back from ur shelf----play me bastard

Again i did this for U and not to defend Bethesda or neither Obsidian.
If u got specific questions feel free to ask.

For the moment i wish u ALL A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

Best Regards to Everyone Here....

Hi folks. Here is an edited version of the original post, so that it is a little easier to read. :)

======================

Hi Everyone,

There are a lot of duplicate posts regarding problems with the game. But NO ONE likes to read through 100 or more posts - including myself - just to find information on a specific bug, glitch, or annoyance!

I've tried to help out, but as I said, there are just too many duplicate topics and too many posts.

Bug lists are great for the developers, but not very helpful for us gamers. It's yet another annoyance!

After thinking about it, I decided to make a SUMMARY OF TIPS for you - even as I still BETA TEST this game. ((-;

I definitely need some real Stimpacks!

DISCLAIMER
===========
I am doing this for you. I am not here to defend Bethesda or Obsidian!

:fallout:

TIPS
====

It's always best to start with a FRESH GAME

:flamethrower: ....Insert Flaming HOLODISK.....REBOOT.... :sadvaultboy: Back to VAULT 101

I know there are many of us that have invested over 150 hours in one character. But if you want to
be able to play more with a specific character then start over.

You still can keep your game saves and use this character when the NEXT PATCH arrives (hopefully soon)

These tips will make your life so much easier:

* Start a New Game
* Turn off Auto Saves
* Only Do Manual Saves
* Never Do Quick Saves
* Never Do Quick Loads
* Don't Overwrite an Existing Save Game
* When You Load a Game, Return to the Main Menu
* Hold Down (LEFT BUTTON + RIGHT BUTTON + X) when you load the game - this will clear the game cache, which often gets fragmented. This causes longer loading times and script issues! The game engine is very script sensitive, and script problems are the source of most issues with the game - including stuttering and frame rate problems.
* You don't have to save every 5 minutes or so
* You don't really need a 100 save games, but you can if you really want to - and have the storage space for it. ((-; )
* Try saving every 30 minutes, before starting a quest, or before fast traveling
* If you're running out of save game slots, then delete existing saves, don't overwrite - I can't say this enough! :brokencomputer: Saving a game is very quick this way.
* If you die, load up a manual save from the main menu
* Remember: Not everything is a bug. Always read the quest briefings properly. Use your map, and most importantly use your head! I've learned that over all my years playing Fallout.
* If you receive a new quest or get a new map marker (quest updated) on your Pip Boy, or you finish a quest - wait for a moment - don't rush through doors or fast travel too soon. This can cause script issues and then: :banghead:

* Dead Money hint: Get the "Light Step" perk - The Sierra Madre is booby trapped to the max!

That′s my latest tips! I will update this post as frequently as I can for you!

==========

Using the tips above, most of my playthroughs have been flawless.

BUT NEW VEGAS IS BUGGY AS FALLOUT ALWAYS WAS AND STILL NEEDS MORE PATCHES.

I really hope that these tips help you. I feel sad for everyone that spent a lot of money for a GREAT GAME that is now sitting on a shelf collecting dust.

Now go grab the game and start playing again! It′s worth it. It's calling out to you from the shelf: "Play me you bastard!" :disguise:

==========

Remember: I did this for you and not to defend Bethesda or Obsidian.

If you have any specific questions for me, please feel free to ask!

I just want to wish all of you a HAPPY NEW YEAR IN ADVANCE !!!!!!! :celebration:

Best Regards to Everyone Here,

Your CRUZ :vaultboy:

I have something to add;

Only do one quest at a time. Don't skip back and forth between multiple quests, making a little progress in each; just do it start to finish.

Why?

Is this for technical reasons, or to improve the experience?

You may start a quest that you won't be able to finish until you've levelled up a bit. And surely switching between quests makes it more fun?

I often switch between quests if I have to get more XP. But sometimes one quest will depend on things you do on another, which can cause scripting problems to occur.

If I have to earn more XP for a quest, I will keep the quest selected and then venture off to other parts of the world and build it up by killing things. There is a huge Death Claw sanctuary way out of the outer edge of the map where you can rack up a lot of XP. If you have one of the strategy guides you can find its location. Or maybe a Google search will do the trick. Otherwise, I just search for places where there are lots of enemies.

Right now with the fragile state of the game, it's better safe than sorry to keep with one quest at a time. I am a little more adventurous in switching quests on the fly.

Cheers!

Gonna clear the game cache now cause am sure I need to.

I also believe that the temperature on the Xbox 360 make have an effect on the load times/bugs you encounter. Can this be tested?

I've honestly never had a problem with using autosaves. I also do manual saves if I'm been walking for a bit without entering anywhere, but what's the problem with overwriting manual saves?

This was just a TIP like many others.
If You Overwrite an existing Save Game, there is a chance that something can get Wonky
to your Save or Playthrough. But most important, whats the Deal at all !!!!

SAVING takes just seconds. And i am definately say : BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.

FinalWish, with all the respect, but making Posts about you never had any proplems with specific
things, don′t help the OTHER′s that much......Right!!!

Thanks Anyway...

Another "sort of" add-on to the list:

I found out that when playing, don't always used a scoped weapon, because the game mostly renders what the player can see, relatively close to him/her. For example; if you look down a sniper rifle scope, it will take a few seconds for people, objects and buildings to render. Sticking with the "iron sights" made the game run slightly better for me.

Or just warn your friends and svck it up that you bought a game that's bugged to high hell.

Also, it's nice that folks are trying to share ways to make the game more playable with each other, but if you take a step back and look at it it's obscenely stupid that it's necessary.

I've learned to get around most of the bugs, or deal with them when I run into them. Some of Paladin's tips were great and were basically common sense.

I must admit that after the patch, I loved how Boone's hands would expand into psycho giant bat wings. LOL. My daughter was laughing hard and we kept trying to push him off of one of the large cliffs to see if he could fly. :)

The only thing I can't tolerate is the complete lockups where I have to hard power cycle the console.

Thanks again Paladin, and everyone else who are trying to help until (hopefully) the developers actually fix this game. A friend of mine that used to be at Pandemic told me that often when the games get rushed - like this one did - the source code becomes a rat's nest that quickly becomes almost impossible to maintain. And after the major release most of the developers are moved to other projects leaving the remaining developers in hell. :brokencomputer:

I am an old software architect and developer, so I understand that situation all too well.

Hey Everyone,
I just want to give an advice to the ACHIEVEMENT People who are just Starting the Game, or only have reached One of the Endings.

Make Your way through the Game as straight as possible AND stick to One side.... don′t do quest for too many Factions.
So You have an absolute High Chance to get yourself a Non-Gamebreaking Playthrough and the proper ACHIEVEMENTS!!!!!
Just, don′t forget to make an Backup of at least one SAVEGAME at the Lucky 38 before Hoover Dam or Earlier.
So youre able to enjoy ??? (should i really say that???), the Game with all the side quests after your Trophy Run........

Also, I heard that if you set the Colour of Your PIP BOY and HUD to other than default (orange), you should
receive a better performance.....but that Sounds a bit strange to me TBH, and i never expected that myself.

And i heard some people having problems because their Stick Controls are strangely inverted (Move with the right stick, Camera left stick).
So there's an option in your profile to have your default controls as southpaw (which is what you've got, it's for lefties).
Check to see if that's the problem.

Thanks TESLA for the Hint regarding the SCOPES, i will add that.
That′s another of those nice "if you don′t REALLY need em, BETTER don′t use em" features.
You should take your FALLOUT-EXCITEMENT out of Doing thing′s your way and have FUN.....
But there are so many --if you wanna Do this, than don′t Do that.......
New Vegas is no Game....It′s a NEW JOB!!!!!
OHHHHHhhhhhh LORD.......BRING US ONE MORE PATCH. (Before the Next DLC PLEASE!!)

Best Regards
CRUZ :vaultboy:

Sorry, even infants don't require this long of a manual.

Let's face it. This game is broken to its core. I refuse to restart a 100+ hour game because the developers shipped it too early. Sorry, New Vegas, you will collect dust on my shelf.

As allready mentioned, it′s nice to see helpfull people who contribute hints and tips how to make game perhaps work better. However, more and more i think it more and more [censored] it feel′s. I mean, that us, the gamers need to do all this make our game work in the first place. I have limited time for gaming, unfortunately, and when i have that time, i wanna sit down relax and enjoy the gameplay, not to avoid doing this and that to make sure the game works. Not think if the tin can i just picked up from the roadside perhaps kills a script somwhere else and so on.

I feel more and more we don′t need the actual gameplay manual. We need one for how to "avoid all the pitfalls in the code" I mean ofcourse they should have finished the game properly before releasing it but oh well...

Not sure why i even bother to rant. I still love the game to the bits, it′s an great Fallout game and to me much better than Fallout 3 was. Too bad for the technical shortcomings.

I totally feel the same way. This is the first game where I have had to use walk throughs JUST so I can make sure I don't bug it up by doing the wrong thing (which totally kills the experience for me). I hear ya. I'm married, with a kid, work full time, etc and don't have time trying to walk on egg shells so that my game doesn't mess up. I have already screwed up one set of quests because I bugged it up but doing the wrong thing. Pretty big pain in the butt.

I think most people are capable of playing it without it crashing and burning but small stuff adds up, having several quest lines/triggers just. not. work. is infuriating.

Every day I play I'm left with a, "How did this hit store shelves?" feeling.

Speak with your pocket books people. Don't fork over cash for DLC if you're pissed. It's like giving your dog a treat for pissing on the carpet.

I've kind of teeter-tottered back and forth about being nice and trying to help vs. getting mad-ass angry about the game. I've thought long and hard (that's what she said) and now I am going to stick to the mad-ass angry side now!

With one caveat...

It's not the developers' fault. It's the studio's and publisher's fault.

The publisher set a date and pushed the studio to meet it. The heads of the studio pushed their developers to meet an impossible date, and thus a crappy ass game was born.

If you look at the sheer number of quality assurance personnel and testers, you'd think they would have found these bugs 5 minutes into their first round of testing. With that amount of people (read the credits), it is amazing that a game could get released like that. I got chewed out by the admin of this board by asking if the QA team actually did any work?

Anyway, this game is crap. I can play it and enjoy it for about 60% of the time, but the rest is a trip through hell.

Why the hell aren't the video game sites, blogs, RSS feeds, ripping these folks a new one every day? The more bad press they get, the more their sales are hurt, and the more likely they are to get their asses in gear and fix this thing.

Whew! My rant is done for now.

It's probably true, but for all we know they may have told Bethesda the game was finished, and ready for release ...

Return to Fallout: New Vegas
