First thing i would like to say is that i've played this game for about 30 hours. i've enjoyed every single hour of it until now. then this issue comes up.
First the issue was about that i couldn't enter any building or place anymore without my xbox freezing up then i found a solution for this problem by turning the autosave off.
but then i discovered that i can't even save manually anymore without my xbox freezing up and it happens on some other saves aswell.
so now if i want to resume with my current playthrough i have to let my system on all day just to progress further.

Anyone experiencing this? anyone know how to fix this?

I hope Bethesda releases a patch soon because this is just frustrating.

This is the first time I've heard of this issue. How old is your Xbox? Is your disc scratched?

my xbox is of 2007. My disc is fine & clean.
But i've started a new game and the saving works on this new game without it freezing up my xbox.
So probably it's just happening on some saves where i progressed alot .
I've never experienced this with any game so far until now.

I've had the same issue. Just started happening yesterday (Thursday 1/6/11). I can load the autosave or other saved games I have, but now anytime that I try to save manually, or the autosave tries to kick in (when I go into a building etc.), the Xbox freezes up. I've tried loading various of my manually saved games, and it happens with all of them as well as the auto-saved one. So I can;t go any furthur because I can't go in anywhere.

My disc doesn't have scratches or such. I didn't try shutting off the autosave, but that sounds like it was just a temp fix for you anyhow. I tried clearing the game cache per the instructions here in the FAQ's, and that didn't solve the problem. I haven't cleared out the Xbox system cache yet, as I really don't want to have to re-download updates for every single other game I own just because this one is buggy.

I was having a lot of fun with this too - really enjoying it. I haven't put in as much gameplay as you, I only got it this past Monday, but I'm afraid if I restart that the same thing will just happen again when I get to a similar time point.

I am also having the same issue. I tried to write an e-mail today to Bethesda Software, but their contact site is having issues...just like their game. I have been a fan of Bethesda a long time and this is a very frustrating thing to deal with. I got through about 2 or 3 hours of gameplay before my game started to freeze up on me anytime i tried to save or walk into a building. The worst part about it is, I went to gamestop to try and get another copy of the game, and it did the same exact thing. I have read online that a patch has been released at this point for the xbox. I downloaded a patch before I started to play the game, and this issue has occurred after my download. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before, and I am a little annoyed that this game has been out for a few weeks and a workable patch still isnt available to fix these glaring issues. This is something that could potentially prevent me from buying Bethesda's products again. I hope there is a fix for this soon, because I hate to say I threw $60 straight down the drain.

sounds stupid, but maybe you bought a bugged item ...

i also had this bug, the game froze after i bought stuff at the gun runners shop. maybe it was some gunpowder or 5.56 boxes. Anyway, after that point, i couldn't save anymore. the only workaround i found was ... well, to skip the shopping session entirely.

think back, maybe you can determine when this has started, and then you might be able to reload a save prior to that point ...

Here are some things i've had done ingame before this issue started.
The issue started while i was getting a duck and cover! skillbook in the tent seconds after i got attacked by a large mantis from behind which i totally destroyed. After that i saved.

Then i fast-travelled to primm for the Tales of a Junktown jerky Vendor skillbook which location was in the bison steve hotel and i entered the building and i got the loading screen after it was finished with loading it turns to a black screen where my xbox froze.
I had my system reset.

Loaded the save game up then i fast travelled to the strip entrance. Pick up arcade gannon & rex. After that i fast travelled to primm againg to get the skillbook and then i got the loading screen and after it was finished with loading i got a freezing black screen againg.
And i couldn't enter a building or place anymore without getting a freezing black screen
After some messing around trying to fix this issue. Which fixed the issue but sadly after that i couldn't save manually anymore either.

I have the same issues mate I keep getting freezing whilst loading the game and my saves keep getting corrupted going into the main entrance of the strip, and by the area of the casionos, the game jsut does like saving or loading there, I have allready done a topic on the problems that I am getting, i tried turning auto save off and do manuall saves but the game just doesnt like saving or loading.
My game is installed to Hard Drive aswell.

I have the same problem, I don't know what causes it (but it only happened after the new patch)

It seems to happen only on new games after the patch, and waits til about lvl 4-5

or 12am pacific time last night, me and a friend running the same character encountered the problem at the same time, same level. Him at black mountain and me at primm

I asked gstaff about the black screen freezes and gstaff suggested to me was do not make any overwrite saves as it might be the cause to the whole freezing.

Its not that for me, we tried making new save slots, deleting all the old saves slots, nothing worked
