d9d3.dll help for ATI cards

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 2:52 am

I'm having trouble installing the d9d3.dll fix. I have purchased this game and I have it running through steam, whenever I take the file to the Fallout Folder in the steamapp folder and put it in there and start the game it crashes. When i start the game it says that its detecting optimal settings for the computer which ive read is correct, but when i start the game it crashes in 1-2 seconds. I've also recently found one that said it was an ATI fix I tried that one (I believe) and it still crashed

http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-4650.13883.0.html this is the info for my video card. If anyone knows how to get this patch to work i would be very grateful.

There is a .dll specific to ATI cards. And there is a version specifically for HD 5000/6000. Make sure that you use the correct one.

That is because the fix is a workaround as I have detailed here http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1134379-d3d9dll-and-why-it-works/
It might resolve your issues or simply be incompatible and make you crash. It's not a guaranteed fix, at best it is a fluke of programming that the community has embraced as a genuine fix for a serious issue.

This I agree with. The existence of this work-around, while good that it works, also is taking the heat off of Obsidian/gamesas to fix the real issue.

"Heat" is meaningless after eleven days and two thousand or more repeats of the same thing. But whether you noticed it or not, the OP is dyslexic.

There currently is no such thing as Direct9D, only Direct3D, so there is unlikely to be any official library file named d9d3.dll.

I just downloaded that one to see if it would work and it works the same as the other. The second my game turns on it crashes. I'm not sure if my Mobility Radeon HD 4650 is not compatible with this fix or if I just need a different file.

Also from what I understand this just makes the game run in Direct x9? If so is this the only way to do it? or is there a different way to run the game in Dx9.
