You have to create a shortcut to the game with -console added in the target field.

You must mean the developer console which is opened by pressing the tilde key. Its the button to the left of 1 and above TAB in most cases. I wouldnt advise using the dev console to cheat though, it can really take all the fun out of the game and severely shorten its lifespan.

Hit the ~ key but not shift-~ key. After you do that, a cursor should be in the left side of your screen and then you type the command you need. A list of commands is located in Fallout 3's cheat forum or on the Vault.

I use it to "unstick" my character. I have a nasty habit of jumping, crouching and otherwise trying to get to places I shouldn't be going. I even got stuck between the pickup truck and the ceiling in the Goodsprings' gas station. :brokencomputer:

it can save a lot of frustration in times like that.

Here is the Vault's link. It should explain everything you need to know.

MMMK, I read it, annnd "■In Fallout Nev Vegas the game has to be started with parameter "-console" - create a shortcut and add "-console" to the Target after opening the Properties of the Shortcut. "

How do i create the shortcut, i can get into properties, but whenever i try to change the shortcut, but whenever i try to type it in, it always changes letters. "ctrl + alt + - : ctrl +alt + C etc. etc."

I'm SUPER sorry for my inconvenience, but i appreciate your guys' help.

Check to make sure you have access to change the properties tab ... depending on your windows version and install it may not allow you to change it without first giving yourself permission. I don't have a link to the Microsoft site, but they can explain that if needed.

Try this. Do not hit shift. Use the tilde key.

Then try typing

player.additem f 5000

hit enter

hit ` again. You should have 5000 caps.

See if that works.

I didn't have to do any of this and I can open the console with a default installation. Are you using a controller when in Fallout? If so you will never get the console to come up until you turn off the 360 controller setting under your options menu. This might not apply to you but you never know :)

when you hit ~ .. nothing happens.. thats correct.. nothing will happen.. no magical Command Screen pops up or anything..

On my system @ 1280x1024 res the prompt for the console is about 1" behind the left side of the screen.. so I cant even see that.. if I need to type something into the console I just have to make sure I type it correctly..

Just a side note: you should be able to hit tab until the cursor is in view and then type the command in and it should accept it. I had that issue in FO3 itself.
