What is the mod of choice for FWE Fallout 3 players?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:19 pm

I have only done one playthrough of Fallout New Vegas and it was with very few mods because I wanted to experience it without heavy changes.

I liked the game and decided to wait a bit until more mods were released for a second playthrough. I see that there is the Project Nevada mod that adds a lot of FWE features such as FPS grenade hotkeys, bullet time, etc...

But IMO the biggest weakness of FNV was that the damage was not balanced. What is the best mod out there for damage/weapon balancing similar to that of FWE? I'm not looking for one-shot kills but I don't want vanilla damage either - something in the middle would be nice.

Thanks in advance

I'd recommend WMX and giving Arwen_NV_Realism_Tweaks with the Realism Core (Arwen_NV_Realism_Core.esp) a try.

She does a great job of providing a better balance.

Especially since half of Project Nevada (including the rebalancing part ) is still in development.

They run great together so you can have the best of both worlds.

And if you want a real challenge then also use the Hard-Core module (Arwen_NV_Hard-Core.esp).
I was level 9 before I got better than reinforced Leather armor on my current play through.

Check out the XFO's mods by Xodarap777 if you want to be able to fine tune your experience.
He has lots of options for different styles of play.

I'll also recommend the following two mods

Classic Companion Config really helps. Has a lot of great options like setting your companions to Passive.
My personal favorites is you can remove the instant auto heal after combat on your Companions so they no longer have Troll like regeneration.
If they get hurt then just like you they need Stimpacks to heal up.

Finally Kobu's Sortable Crafting Backpack.esp makes crafting much easier.

Project Nevada is the one to look out for, however the rebalancing and equipment parts are still under deveploment. I've been using the aforementioned Arwen's Realism Tweaks and WMX to cover for those parts in the mean time. I think the Med-Tec volume of ART is incompatible with PN, but otherwise they work together quite nicely.

For MMM's role i've been using Increased Wasteland Spwns (IWS) mod with A World of Pain (AWOP). However with those two you need a slower lveling mod, or just use console command setgs iXPBumpBase (default is 150, bigger = slower, smaller = faster).

WOW...Arwen's and WMX are a hell of a lot more extensive than I remember them when I last looked. Definitely will check these out. Thanks.

Yep, as I have my own character in that mod.

Word of advice: You have to make decent measures to make it work properly on your computer. It will stress your game out to its breaking point if you don't. I highly suggest reading the description for details.

The end reward is well... pure and utter chaos with decent performance. Just check the screenshots section and you'll get a fairly good idea about what the mod is all about.

Personally, I would recommend it for use after the first or second playthrough, as it isn't lore-friendly, but rather logic-friendly.. if that's even a term in the dictionary. Well that and you can determine whether or not you want more craziness in your Mojave.

I checked out some of its spawn points this evening. I like it a lot, and it didn't cause a lot of trouble with my computer.

It's surprising, but FNV seems to handle masses of NPCs WAY better than Fallout 3 did.

Arwen's nv realism tweaks is quite an extensive modification of basic game-play, kind of like FWE, though you might try XFO if your looking for more modular game-play tweaking.

Project Nevada is (if I recall correctly) from the people that brought you FWE, but with less stat tweaks et all. It has some great features, though. They're still working on the added weapons and gameplay tweaks.

WMX or WME add to the weapon mods.

I too would want to know which of these overhauls to choose from.(Project Nevada is a given, its wonderful AND easy to use.)

XFO is modular, I've attempted to use parts of that in nVAMP.

Arwen's is semi-modular, and I've used that too.

Is there any main rebalance that makes it somewhat closer to wanderer's edition realism? My favorite part of the game was being able to cap civilians in the head once I was done exploiting them, and with Arwen's especially you start out extremely gimp with the unrealistic assumption that a bullet to Easy Pete's head does a fraction of his health bar instead of sever his head from spinal cord. I'm not looking for a game that "provides constant challenge all the way through in every aspect". I'm looking for a mod that makes it damn well realistic and challenging without being stupidly hard at every level. "Oblivion Effect" guards essentially is what I would avoid, where no matter what level you are, Imperial Guards will for the most part always defeat you. Instead, I'd rather have the Morrowind approach, where the difficulty is great early on for most things, then tapers off (but still leaves difficult things in game!)

tl;dr - Which overhaul makes combat super deadly for BOTH sides?

What is the difference between WME and WMX?

Different mods by different authors. WMX is by Antistar who made the original WMK mod for Fallout 3. It adds or alters three mods for every gun, including uniques (though it also removes the mods uniques have built-in). Never have tried WME as i was waiting for Antistars version

I guess that one guys rant about "mod monopolies" had some truth to it :hehe:

What is the difference between WME and WMX?

Mostly in what mods they use for which weapon. WME tries to add something onto the model with each mod, while WMX mixes it up with new textures or a slightly different model for certain mods.

I dont think there is a mod yet that perfectly captures that harsh survival element that made FWE what it was.
Just have to wait, the best bet is going to be PNV when the rebalance is out, used in conjunction with IMCN and PPA.
Now if a mod came along to handle wounds as seriously as Arwens Med-Tec module for all NPCs, that could be used in
conjunction with the above, id say all bases are covered for survivalists.

Project nevada is the FWE team but what they currently have releases so far is not an overhaul. Its great though.

Arwen's tweaks are the closest to a pure FWE hardcoe experience. I would use WME with Arwen's and not WMX because the author of WME has made a compatibility patch for Arwen.

Arwen's tweaks are not compatible with many other mods however so if you are looking to be able to add lots of other stuff I would go with XFO. Currently I run some XFO changes like harder AI and slower leveling along with mods like FOOK and WME and IWS on hardcoe/difficult game settings. It works well and can be challenging.

Prjoect Nevada, while awesome, does not make the game more challenging-it actually makes it easier with implants and super sprint, bullet time-etc.You can turn off anything you like in the options though.

WMX has a patch too, but it is only to 1.9 of Arwens which is at 1.21.

Never gave me any trouble running it with 1.21.
Also there is going to be a new release of WMX with updates for the 1.3 patch changes and I bet that the new WMX release will include a current compatibility patch for Arwen.
