Deathclaws Need Help killing groups

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:24 pm

I am having a hard time with groups of Deathclaws I just does not seem to do any damage to them what so ever even I am level 12 and use guns as a primary skill I could handle one but groups. How did any of you guys kill the group of Deathclaws in quarry? like what gun or any other weapon is effective for multiple Deathclaws?

Got any AP rounds?
They have tough hides in this game that bounce most things right off.
Large damage low rof weapons may work too.
Your local 9/10 mm guns are just gonna tickle it though.
Just got myself a Gauss...so I think nows gonna be a good hunting time.

Well, I used a Sniper character to wipe them out without taking so much as a single hit of damage.

I used ED-E and Boone, and had them both wait at the entrance of the quarry. I used a Stealthboy to make it easier to work my way inside, and found a good position that gave me some overlook. With 100 skill in guns, a strength of 6 and the weapon handling perk, I am able to make good use of the Anti-Material Rifle. I brought normal rounds, armor piercing and incindiary, but the AP rounds seemed to work the best on them.

Using ED-E's and Boone's perks make it easy to zone in on the Deathclaws from afar, and better criticals certainly helps with the damage from the sneak attack critical. There is also another perk (that I don't have) that gives you more critical damage against critters, but I'm not sure if it works against Deathclaws. Anyways, with this build I was able to 1 shot most of the normal deathclaws, and killed the Mother and Alpha in about 3 or 4 shots. Hope this helps somehow.

Tell ED-D and Boone to wait at Sloan, sneak until you see red indicator, scope with your sniper and only shoot if you see them move without motion.

You can also climb the rocks surrounding Quarry to snipe.

Or Riot shotgun with shotgun surgeon.

I used rocks and the environment so had no need to hit their legs ( I know you would hit their legs in other cases) headshots do more damage the mother was pain though but I manage to kill her and her stupid babies so glad that area is finally over well on this character anyway. Now my unarmed/melee character is going to have a go lol this will be so fun...

Boone and ED-E died lots still had their perks when dead so there was no need to leave them behind really Boones odd 1 -2 shot before death helped slightly lol. I was always in spot where the Deathclaws could not touch me and on occassions Boone and ED-E revived when the deathclaws was unaware were I was as they could not hit me on a rock.

Oh yeah I found out how much AP round makes a difference

I found that if you start by teleporting to the khan camp just northwest of the quarry and work your way east that you should have several good sniping spots to take out every deathclaw with a sniper without even being spotted.

The Sniper Rifle is all you need and a couple stealth boys as backup. Aim for the head and try to find high ground where they can't reach you easily.

A lot of the questions already have been answered. Since Deathclaws have a high DT any low "damage per hit" Weapon will barely be able to hurt them. In general AP Ammo should be the best choice though I'm not quite Sure if HP Ammo on Sniper Rifle with maxed out Skill and Better Crits might even surpass that. Sniper Rifle deals 63 per Shot + 93 per Crit, so aiming to the head should deal 312 Damage with normal Ammo (usually guarenteed Headshot with 20% Crit Chance. Not quite sure, where the +75% is factored in. If it WOULD be after all modifiers, we would look at 546 Damage. AP Rounds on the other hand reduce damage by 5% and Enemys DR by 15.

So as long as 546 - 3xDT > 312*0.95-(DT-15) HP Bullets would be the better choice, if my assumptions are right. And this would be true for an DT < 117,3

All of the above only true, if my assumptions about the combat mechanics are right. It could easily be true, that the 75% additional damage from the bullets are factored in at the same time when 200% Damage for the hit on the head is applied changing the formula to

429 - 3xDT > 312*0.95 -(DT-15)

Maybe the damage modifiers even only apply to base damage but not crit damage lowering the value further...

If you use EW, the best way to kill ANY group is with a Gauss Rifle and Meltdown. Kill one (preferably from stealth for the sneak crits), everyone else will most likely die in the resulting explosion.

But for guns, rocket launchers are nice. Fatman is better. But an Anti-Materiel Rifle and some .50 AP rounds will put a damper on EVERYTHING.

Is there any evidence that Hunter works on Deathclaws?

No idea, but I have the Perk. I don't think it does though. Death Claws are considered a mutant race I believe. That is why I also have Purifier :)
