Killing Snipers

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:03 pm

Alot of people in FPS become snipers no matter what they play for alot of kills and not dieing much but is that just a myth. Are snipers really invinsible, I don't thinks so. One way to kill a sniper is after hearing the first shot is take cover, find out where the shot came from, retreat and go a different way and hit from behind. Snipers can't snipe upclose. How would you kill or avoid being killed by a sniper. Need hints and tips on killing a sniper. Help bring a competive edge to brink by coming up with ways to kill a sniper without sniping one. Keep in mind I don't hate snipers. I snipe sometimes when im in the mood. I also don't mind campers. For me that's an easy kill. If a strategy works why not. Im just dedicating this for a strategy for killing snipers. There is no rules to war in reality but people would like to think so, but that's a different topic.

Uh, go operative, get a disguise, follow the sniper shot, get near the sniper and throw a sticky bomb with a smile on it! Wallauh, burnt to a crisp sniper.

Well, that would be a good tactic in COD, but the noscopes are fairly accurate in Brink.

There is a general ability that lets you know whenever anyone is aiming at you. It is a Rank 1 ability. You can slide or suddenly change direction to throw off their aim. Snipers are not a problem. Ridiculously overpowered NPC bot enemies and Ludicrously stupid NPC allies are a serious problem.

Counter-snipe using your own LR or a decent AR with burst fire, use SMART to get close via alternative routes if you have SMG or shotgun, Operative Disguise can help, Medic self-buff after the first shot so you reverse their damage before charging, or rely on teamwork - if you're an Op and stuck without an approach route or long-range weapon, light the guy up with a Beacon so the whole team knows where they are - then take the long way around (there's ALWAYS a long way around in Brink)

I usually agree with you oblivion, but this I the onetime I am gonna have to disagree.

Trying to use Ar vs a sniper at a fair distance is suicide, the sniper dosnt even need to hit you in the head unless your a heavy, and for you to have any chance of hitting him you'll needs to use scope/ironsight in which case you are nothing but a big juicy steak waiting to get devoured.

As for counter sniping with Lr, this just turns the whole map into a big freaking sniperfest, I've seen it happen to often the last 2 days Its just sad.

Getting close trough alternate routes is also nothing more then a wish, once a team starts getting 3+ snipers they can more or less lock down any objective, including the alternate routes.

As for disguise, It might get you one or two kills if your lucky, but theres also the fact that when a team starts camping theyr teammates tend to stay close, as such theres no disguise to take.

Trying to beacon a sniper is suicide.

And no theres not ALWAYS a long way around, and even where there is you mostly have to run trough a big open area, and using smart sure as hell wont save you since bullet travel is instant in brink.

Depends on the sniper.

Barnett, ARs won't work unless you're a Heavy, and even then it's touch-and-go. Drognav, they can beat if you're good and the sniper has other targets.

The maps are set up so that you can basically throw a grenade at any of the snipe spots. Also, flashbangs are incredibly annoying.

Trying to counter a sniper is all well and good, one problemthough: The places I snipe from the majority of players don't know about.

Yes fist we can throw grenade at them, but unlike the barnet the grenade wont kill them.
Not to mention you have to stick your head out to throw that grenade, say bye bye to head.

The problem is not, that you don't know about the place, theres hardly any "secret" areas in brink.
The problem is actually getting to those areas when they are locked down by half a team of snipers while the other half of the team is doing theyr usual ramboing.

3+snipers can lock down objectives fast and smart doesn't seem like a good tool. Your missing something with the smart system. If you are running with a team of people in an open area then you hear the sniper shot and your teammate beside you goes down or the sniper misses the shot. Now you know a sniper is around and this point the smart system comes in handy. Sprinting 3 to 5 seconds then slide and continue until you find cover or alternative route. Finding an alternative route is betting the sniper because now is the sniper going to go after you or stay there to kill more of your teammates. Less the sniper kills the more ineffective the sniper will be for the team. As far as other teammates to worry about you don't have to find and kill the sniper you can hold down the area you are in until your other teammates gets there and then go hunting or forward on with your objective. Another way on preventing a death by sniper is know the maps and where the cover spots from sniping are. There is spots even in the open areas to cover from the shots or just making it hard for the sniper to hit is good enough until finding cover. Snipers give away there spot everytime they shoot. If your sniping a sniper then it not really beating a sniper. Its just becoming one which fallows the saying if you can't beat them join them. These are good ideas though. Snipers have tunnel vision when zoomed in, which is a big disadvantage.

Medium and Light Soldiers are possibly the best anti-sniper players - SMART your way in close (preferably while another teammate runs interference) and hit with Molotov/Frag combo - fast and hard, a short burst from any weapon will finish them even if they're a Heavy, if you're a medium, having the GL attachment on an AR makes the frag even better for this than usual.

And if you have Scavenge, it only cost you one supply pip and a couple of bullets. Less if there were multiple snipers in one spot.

Also, I managed to counter-snipe at long range with a Galactic, because I had a friendly Medic buffing me. The guy I was after was using a Drognav, and he was pretty good with it. Only took 3 bursts to incap him though. I'd have done the same damage with half the ammo at mid-range. So that can work. Not so much against a Barnett, unless you're a Heavy with a scoped weapon of some variety as your secondary.

Unless they are camping your spawn, like on Container City, it is fairly easy to flank a sniper since they are so oblivious. Just slide tackle or punch the guy and he wont have the chance, LR's svck at close range.
