More BRINK

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:02 pm

First and foremost I would like to extend my gratitude to all the people at Splash Damage, although the game has a few kinks to be fixed, i can see myself playing this game for a long time to come. thank you.

Now getting to the point of this discussion; what will the dlc include?

These are most of my ideas, well really hopes. lol

I was curious weather or not whether or not the BRINK dlc will have any other types of online play. As an example I would suggest the introduction of game types like capture the flag. i feel that with the 3D level build it would be an enjoyable option. I was wondering if anyone had caught wind of anything along the lines of new game types being added when the dlc releases or if any of you have any other ideas for game types. Obviously TDM and Free-for-all would most likely be out of the realm of possibilities, as they should be if you want TDM go play COD.

Also I personally would really like an increase in the level cap. I understand the reasoning for the level cap being twenty has to do with the abilities and such but i think that we would all be happy with a couple more levels to work up to. With this in mind i also feel compelled to hold out hope for more uniforms and weapons that would correlate to the level cap increase.

I would like to hear all the suggestions that others have, and I imagine that the developers will be happy to hear any ideas that we may have.

Thus far Splash Damage has done a great job of catering to the complaints that we have made and as far as i know they are working diligently to amend any problems with the game, its always nice to see a company that actually cares about their customers.

thanks-

I want more clothes... A lot more. I feel there should have easily been 3x more... Hellas more color choices otherwise... Like, balance out the color selection, so there would be a matching color for every color, on every piece...
A complement of weapons would help the game a lot too. More maps is always fun. Id like to know more on what's going on inside the ark, rather, what's going on outside the ark...

I agree with you I would love to see a new assortment of uniforms ranging from something like an old school metal head to a viking (admittedly they do have the beard down, but i would like to see either long hair or a helmet with horns)
I don't know if i see any more info about the ark in the foreseeable future, I also would like to have learned more about what happened and a more in depth story. It is such a unique idea it just feels a little under developed.
I believe that there will absolutely be new maps, it almost goes without saying but i think terrain with a tower would be fantastic, having to make ones way all the way to the top hack something and then run all the way down to take it somewhere else.
What kinds of guns would you like to see more of though? I think they did a sufficient job of introducing quite a few sub machine guns but i also do not play light so maybe there will be some discrepancy with my statement.

I agree with the part about the under developed story line. I think they could of done a lot more with it. (not saying I don't love brink, cause I do!)

Oh i do too i hope that no one would misinterpret my statement as any resentment toward brink.
anyway i would like to see any new ideas that you all might have, i noticed that some people are throwing around new ability ideas that seem to be pretty good.

I'm really hoping SD can deliver on this DLC, and not throw together a half-assed package just because it's free. Though I do have faith that they will do a good job.

As for what I want to see, I want 4 more quality maps that really take advantage of SMART and have creative objectives, maybe some new gametypes, and definitely an expansion on the storyline. Give it more depth this time. The tale of the Ark has so much potential; if it is executed well I will be satisfied.

I'm thinking that with the level builds capture the flag would be great and every class would have something to contribute,
engineer- protect flag with mines and turrets
medic- obviously heal the wounded, but almost essential to the delivery of a flag
soldier- advantage with nades and helping run the flag
operative-run the flag in disguise!

I agree with most of what is on here.

I usually have no problem with paying for a DLC if it is crucial to gameplay. However, I feel like Brink was an incomplete game that needs to make up for the fact that it was released with such high expectations.

With all the commercials and pre-views of the game, I expected a lot more clothing options. I even pre-ordered the Fallout Pack thinking the gun skins would matter - when really they are barely visible.
I also wish I had more control over the tattoos. I wish there was individual placement - but that just may be me being super picky.

I also feel like there needs to be more attachments. That was another thing Brink prided itself upon, but I feel like unlocking all the attachments after two-starring the challenges wasn't enough.
I hate to compare it to other games because it is supposed to be so unique, but the Call of Duty series has a lot more attachments. I would have loved a crossbow, a flamethrower or dual wielding of some of the pistols.

I would also like tracking like Halo: Reach has and weapon-specific challenges like Call of Duty.

Also, the color/tint specifics would be nice.

There is a whole thread on which perks could be introduced, so I won't touch that here.
But I like the idea of upgrading the level cap by 5 as well with new maps. And I think these maps should have a little more distance to them, some long range distances to sprint over using the S.M.A.R.T. tech and I love the idea of a tower to climb. I have never used the light body type after the challenges and a test run, I never saw a true reason for it since the medium does my gameplay style just fine.

I was sort of disappointed by the fact that the missions given were really halved - each mission from each perspective was fun, but not entirely thrilling as I decided to change teams.

There are some other threads covering the options of Team Deathmatch or like minded games. I don't think Brink is that type of game.
It is more like Killzone 2 and 3 - where the fairness comes from attacking as a group or defending as a fortress.

I hope this wasn't too wordy. I also don't want people to think that I like the other games I mentioned more than Brink. I have played the others for a long while, however, I agree with the first person who started the thread in that I will be playing this for a long time. Splash Damage and Bethesda have really stumbled upon something phenomenal. I hope they just keep on adding to it to perfect it and stop all this negativity about the game since it is the most fun I've had playing online with others in a long time.

you made so many points that i really agree with, i love the idea of individual placement of tattoos and gun camo. I also found myself to be a little unhappy with how easy it was to obtain all of the attachments, i think that were they to be challenge based it would have alot more replay. so if i use the carb and get 25 kill then i get the red dot or something, although this may a faulty idea because honestly this game seems to want to steer clear of any stats involving kills or k/d. Anyway, so much can be done with this game to make it that much more fun that Splash Damage will have no problem bringing things that all players can appreciate.

I've mentioned this in a post of mine in an elsewhere thread but while we're pitching ideas and suggestions here. I would really like to see my character be more interactive. For instance when it comes to the cut-scenes, your character almost always looks like just one of those guys sitting in the back as an extra, watching the 3-5 other guys carry on a conversation. I'm sorry, but when you're part of a rebellion, you would think you'd have something you'd want to say, a reason to believe in the rebellion, and something you want to voice to your comrades instead of sitting in the back of the shadows like an extra that got pulled off-stage. I mean it doesn't seem like a big deal and it probably isn't but the way I see it is, especially if they plan on expanding the story, say to a point where your rebels do decide to truce with the security forces and your character is there.....As either side, do you honestly expect him to say nothing? He's either going to speak out against it, or possibly reluctantly agree to the truce just like everyone else. And what if it came down to your character wether he be security or rebel chasing after and capturing the boat at the end of the credits or whatever you want to call them, if they expand the story out that way, what about the cut-scene where your character is on that ship/boat and is one of the people confronting who ever it is on that ship? Do you really expect anyone to not speak in that situation? Especially to sit in the background and just watch? Not have a gun pointed at someone's face or something? I'm sorry but the player's characters seem a bit static is all I'm saying.

I'm not sitting over here asking for a game tweak where you have the option to pick what your character does, and in doing so have an opportunity to alter the storyline completely, that's just outrageous, I'm just asking for a bit of a dymanic, or life-like character. Currently, he's just too quiet to be believable.

Exactly, Brink reminds me a lot of Team Fortress 2 (Love it btw). This is what Brink needs as TF2 is still hugely popular today!

I completely understand why the story telling is as such. They want your character to be the fist of the revolution, not the brains. They wanted to create a game where all the players are foot-soldiers. I truly thought this idea was realistic and genius.
Yet, I did find myself spending all this time customizing my character and thinking of some awesome back story for him only to find that I didn't really matter at all.
I like the way Killzone 3 sets up it's multi-player missions. In the brief cut scenes between objectives, the players who are leading in points or who recently completed the last objective are shown with their PSN Handle above their character as a reward. If this was presented in this game I would feel a million times better about sacrificing my body over and over again to repair some damaged crane controls.

I feel like kill/death has no place in this game since everyone gets revived, haha. But I do understand some people out there do get so ridiculous about it and I don't want my awesome gaming experience to be ruined by nothing but medics on the field.

I think Brink has a lot of replayability, but long-distance challenges is what really would keep a larger audience (and I hate to say it but achievement hoggers). At least then I'd have more people than bots on my team.

Also I'd like to see a much larger level cap, but with a higher level cap comes the need for more abilities and things to earn. I don't mean to bring it up but for Brink to compete with Call of Duty and games alike, multiplayer needs to be more deeper than it is presently. I want Brink to succeed, but for people who aren't huge diehard fans of this game (a large chunk of people no doubt) they're going to play it, get bored of it and trade it in (not PC) which will be a huge mistake!.
