What would you like to see in a Brink update?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:40 pm

I know Brink is a revolutionary game but I think that it is missing some basic features that would help put Brink over the top. I believe that this thread will help the developers know what is on our minds.

There are some changes that I would like to see, such as....
1. Obviously the lag.
2. When I party up I would like to search for a game as a party instead of scouting around individually trying to find a game that fits my team size and class ranks inorder to invite my party.
3. Some way of avoiding jumping right back into the same game that I just left. I left the game for a reason (lag, not enough room, rank restrictions, etc) I do not want to go back countless times to the same room.
4. I would like to see my personal stats (eg kill/death ratio) on the system, not a website. I know they list the player with the highest kills but I would like to see the break down per player at the close of the match (like every other game).
5. A team deathmatch mode. While I am aware that this should not be the focus of the game there is a very large community that would enjoy that as a side option. I am personally burnt out on TDM but several of my friends are on the fence about this game because it is lacking this mode. I feel that this would attract more common gamers and introduce them to the awesome world of Brink.
6. You should be able to talk to the random human people on your team. Maybe that is an option and dont know how to do it so if it is forgive me. I know the developers are trying to avoid offensive team speak but there is already a way to do it with the mute button. As it is now it creates a rather annoying situation in which I can not convey my teams tatics to newcomers with getting them into our party. There is no way that the preset dialogue can encompass the complex tatics that usually occur in the game.
6. A mode that does not include bots.
7. The ability to make clan tags.
8. The ability to access my friends character designs. Not to make changes, just to see their creativity.
9. I know this last one is completely personally opinion and open to much debate but the Operative should have the flashbangs (give the sticky grenade to the soldier). The operative is most likely a light class and is usually behind enemy lines solo. It would be great if the operative had a way of escaping or causing a destraction once his cover is blown without having to shoot his way out. Flashbangs just seems to flow with that class more so then it does with the more aggresive soldier class.

Ok, so what do you think?

At first deathmatch mode seems like a good idea, but there's a reason I'm playing Brink ever night until 2:00 a.m. and not Halo: Reach. What makes Brink so special to me, or did while seeing all the dev interviews and pre-release material, was the inherent creativity a player could benefit from, and the choices you could make in any given map despite it also being a fast paced action/shooter game.

I'd love to see a game mode that throws the story out the window and randomizes the objective oder and teams on a map. Imagine if Container City started as normal, but as soon as Security blows up the wall, they get told to go defend the crane and the Resistance is told to escort the bot. By forcing the player to adapt to differing order of objectives every time you play, you keep that creativity because that means your primary and secondary objectives can be approached slightly differently every time. So you stay creative even though you can still have a plan of attack for the objectives you've done a million times and counting.

As far as tech issues are concerned, obviously I'm waiting for a patch for texture loading and aliasing issues like everyone else, but mainly I just want to not feel like I'm looking through fog. I don't know if it's the way the game up-converts its resolution or if it's a post processing bug, I just want to see a clean looking set of walls, even if the walls have jaggies and the like.

I want to be able to play on the same team as my friends in a game advertised as a team-based multiplayer game. It is sad that this is even something I have to request.

Giant NO to team deathmatch. Fix lag and add party system, then the experience would be perfect for me.

I DO NOT think there should be a killdeath ratio in the game. i somewhat think this affects the teamwork. people will just going around getting the most kills and death then actually helping the team for what needs to be done. i do agree a killdeath ratio would be cool... but i dont want this game to be call of duty. i really like the game the way it is. (though they DO NEED to fix some things)

Lag, Matchmaking, Voice/Character model glitches, heavy weapon glitch.

Those are all fixes that MUST be made. Flashbangs on Operatives? That's an opinion (that I disagree with). Scoreboard changes, I'd like to see some, but it doesn't affect gameplay or usability (people need to stop thinking that a display of K/D makes COD the way it is, other things in COD actively encourage that style of play and K/D whoring)

You know what I want to see, really? Are you sure, cause Im going to give you fair warning. You wont like it.

I WANT THE [censored] GAME TO [censored] WORK. A SMOOTH GAME PLAY EXPERIENCE IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE. MAYBE EVEN SOUND TO WORK ON A WHOLE [censored] MAP

Thats all I want to see, if not I would like Bethesda to refund my money for publishing this worthless pile of dung that passed off on unsuspecting consumers.

Thank you for your time and for this game wasting mine.

As far as the Team Deathmatch I think it should be an option. I do not think that it should be the default setting but there should be a way to set that up as a possible game option. That way it will give everyone a choice. I still prefer objectives but unfortunately TDM is what most people are used to and including it would only open it to a larger gaming audience. A fully open container city would be an awesome level to showcase what this game can do for the gamers out there that are reluctant to learn how to play objectives but are still curious about the smart movement and class based play. Given the games rough debut it needs to attract as many gamers as possible if it wishes to stay afloat in this VERY competitive gaming season.

As far as displaying the stats, I would like to see all the stats; my kills, how many turrets I hacked, how many teammates I healed, etc. It lets me know how well Im doing in specific areas and where I could improve for my team. Plus, the reality is EVERY multiplayer FPS has a k/d ratio wrap up after the match, not just COD. Even a game in which kills are not a focus (Team Fortress 2) has k/d ratio, its a genre standard. It helps keep some gamers interested. If Brink hopes to avoid becomming an obscure nitch games six months from now it has to include some common elements. Dont worry, there is no way that Brink will ever be confused with COD.

I would also like to outright skip all of the cutscenes in free play. If you want to see the story play the campaign. The cutscenses (opening and ending) are intrusive when you are just trying to play, especially when you have been playing for awhile and have already seen them 20 times.

Finally regarding the operative with the flashbangs. Purely a suggestion. I just view the character as more of sabatour not an aggressor. Flashbangs would really help when a gamer is trying to get past a choke point and blend in with a disguise, hack a turret or escape. I would find that much more helpful. It is evident from the caltrops (which are rarely lethal), the EMP (which is never lethal) and the time it takes to hack things that the class is not intended to be an outright assasin. The soldier is kind of the explosive expert based on the perks and objectives (faster recharge on grenades, more damage, remote bombs, etc) it kind of fits better that he would have the sticky grenade.

First of all I want the lag to be fixed. That's the biggest problem.

Second, do something about the bots. Why is it that they can kill me and my (AI) teammates with 3 shots, and I have to unload almost two full clips? It's most frustrating in the challenges, which are insane to begin with, but mostly because of the shoddy AI. My teammates do absolutely nothing to assist me and I cannot give them any orders whatsoever. Brilliant design, SD.

I would like to be able to tell my AI team what to do. I don't need a bunch of AI team mates going to defend the side stairs when i am with the bot cutting the door. I would like to say rally on me or hold this area. Something like that. Being able to change more colours with individual parts of the outfits would be great. Upgrading the light class health a bit would rock. Love using that weight type but not particle in many situations. But other then that more of everything. Lol (guns, outfits, levels ) all that good stuff. Great game playing like a fiend.

I would like to see:
The matchmaking improved so i dont have to cycle trough 4-5 games before i find one that is playable.
A lobby so i can find a game with my friends.
The rank limitations removed from servers. Or the option "Any rank" when making/finding a game. I find myself often unable to join my friends whom i love playing together with but i have a little more time on my hands then they do. Causing them only to be able to follow me into games and i cannot drop into their games.
My friends models upon entering the game. Often they do not look like the character they created but get a random model assigned and it can take up to 10 minute before i see their model, this kind of removes the purpose if customizing your character if you only can see your own gun and your friends get a random model anyway.
The AI getting improved, Its highly demotivating to run around a corner and have 2 or more bots instantly aim at my head and kill me instantly (Its the worst in the challenge where you have to defend the command post on a "hill") Bots should be able to make headshots but instate a movie rulethat no more then x bots can fire at a player at the same time. (or aim at his head)

I would like to see "king of radio beacon on the hill" or "capture 5 batches of the antidote" implemented in free play.

I would HATE to see:
A deathmatch option, it simply does not fit into brink in my oppinion. If you only want to shoot people, Guard the player/bot thats on a objective.

KING OF THE RADIO BEACON ON THE HILL:
Both resistance and security have a rescue signal to be sent.
A battery pack is located in the center of a map at equal distance from each spawn point. Both teams will fight over and attempt to steal this from the other team.
There are multiple communication arrays located on the map each with different tactical advantages the players then can choose wich base they want to defend. The first to send the complete transmission which should take X minutes to complete (Like a repair objective each percentage gained cannot be undone) will win the match and be resqued. (perhaps on a broken off part of the ark or a large vessel)
