Bought FO:NV from Gamestop w/Classic Pack. Installed properly, no issues with Steam. HATE Steam.

Started new game. Intro Cinematic works just fine. Music works just fine - no stuttering/no issues. This is different from Fallout 3, which I also have. So that's good...

Loaded up just fine. FPS is just fine - however, my character just stands there at the beginning and is not lying on bed - there is no blur. Classic pack items are added to my inventory/sounds play indicating that they have. That sound is working.

As I stand there, I can see the doctor's head bobbing to the lower left corner of my screen - it looks very awkward. (HEY... quit taking advantage of my head injury, old creep!). After pressing ESC key, it corrects my character to laying in bed with the blur effect. But after leaving it for a while, my character just looks at the ceiling for an indefinite period of time. I pressed ESC again, and it looks like the script triggers. Wondering if it's a script/animation trigger issue...

But I don't hear the doctor's dialogue. His lips are moving, and the subtitles are present, but the audio file doesn't play at all. I pressed ESC again, and it plays. I have to push ESC after every sentence to ensure it plays. Very frustrating. Had to continuously strobe ESC to get through the character setup stuff, and finally get to step outside.

Tested out gun (the one that came w/classic pack: Weathered 9MM). Not hearing any gunshots, but I do hear the sounds of the shells hitting the ground. I can hear footsteps when I walk, but no sound otherwise or dialogue from the NPC that's cleaning a stall nearby. After 1-2 mins, I heard the gunshots I used to blow away a raven earlier and the dialogue from the NPC. So there is a Delay. Ran off into the wasteland to test further. Shot some Geckos. No sound for 1-3 mins then I heard a quick mix of bullets/lizardy screams.

I came here at first, looking over the forums to try to figure out what is going on with this. Several posts pointed me in hopeful directions, while others just seemed way too hard to understand. I checked my sound drivers (and yes, it is a motherboard based sound card. I'm aware that makes me 'cheap' for not having better, but some of us have bills to pay with minimal income to spare. Cough.), checked to see if it was a codec issue, or if there's any other solution I could try for. Overall, I'm not sure what to do to fix this and it's really frustrating. My FPS is just fine, though it does lag a little when all of my sound 'bursts' through after the delay.

Decided to save game, exit, and reload game in hopes of fixing this issue. No luck. Tried a full reinstall of FO:NV. No effect. Tried a streamed reinstall of FO:NV through Steam. No Effect. Checked Motherboard Drivers to make certain they're up to date (which they are). Do use FFDShow, but I set FO:NV to be excepted (thanks for the advice!). Still unsuccessful.

Sounds I get : Footsteps, Bring Up Pip Boy, Pip Boy 'Clicks', Music & Radio, Items deposited in Inventory, Shells hitting ground
Sounds I don't Get : NPC Dialogue, Creature Sounds, Weapon Sounds, 'Damage' Sounds

After trying for several hours, testing different presented solutions on here, I'm still out of luck (maybe need more points in it...)

Can anyone offer a possible solution, or do you think it's something that Beth's going to hot-patch soon?

I've been experience this same problem, minus the issue with the animation triggers at the beginning, but the sound problem is making this unplayable. I wonder, is anyone with a dual or more core processor having the sound issue? Copperfield here is running a Celeron and I'm on an AMD 64 3500, is the sound set to run on a separate core or something of the sort?

The fix for this lag/FPS stutter for me was to either make an exception in FFDSHOW or remove the codec from your pc in add/remove programs under control panel... I wish a mod could sticky some of these fixes....

Yeah, I've heard that works for some people, unfortunately not for myself.

Sadly it only works for the sound/dialog related lag.

That's the problem I've been having, where sounds wait about 30 seconds to play, removing FFDSHOW didn't fix it.

A steam forum poster indicated that it was a problem with 5.1 stereo. FONV forces it on load if it is available. And a problem with dolby?

His suggestion was to disable SPDIF inside of the FFDShow.

Start game, alt-tab out, double click the FFDShow thing, inside of the AC3 settings there should be something about SPDIF make sure it is unchecked.

I cannot confirm this because I have been at work for the last 6 hours... But I plan on trying this and some other things I found when I get home.

I am about to go to work but will try or watch for yall to try while at work. I disabled FFDShow and nadda. I have XP and alt+tabing doesn't work to well. Ctrl+Shift+Esc seems to work better for me (again, XP) and then alt+tab to get the mouse to come up, usually leave a internet browser like Firefox up for it to tab over to. Good luck

Uninstalled my K-LIte Codec pack entirely. Doing the exception didn't work, so trying it this way. Didn't fix anything. Other sounds did work, however NPC dialogue still was at a huge delay. -_-

I just registered to say that I am having the exact same problem. I have tried all of the fixes I have seen offered on this board: setting exceptions in ffdshow, turning off SPDIF, uninstalling my codec pack entirely, verifying my sound settings to make sure they weren't autoset to a weird setup. None of it has worked. As is, the game is unplayable for me. Just throwing my hat in the ring, 1 more vote for the devs to fix this problem please.

Same thing here man. This problem is the only reason I registered. I can't even get out of the first town because I refuse to play the game like this. The delay seems fine in buildings, but out in the wasteland... Augh. Here's hoping they get a patch out soon.
